First Volvo - 1988 760 GLE Turbo

Don't ever count on zip ties to withstand boost (positive pressure). The Swedish clamps ABBA are good quality and reasonably price. Used USA made CLAMPCO years ago, wow were those things stout.
100% and I appreciate the reminder. Much better pictures daytime pictures this time, minus the zipties. Updated engine bay goodness.

 
Didn't do much on the car over the winter besides drive it. So much so, I almost bought another project car. Thankfully I did not.

The driver side wiper just stopped working one day, thankfully it was just a loose bolt. Easy fix. While I was in there, I replaced a split idle air control hose with a Do88. There's another hose that runs from the valve, back up to the top of the intake I'll replace when it's convenient.


The driver's side window now no longer drops smoothly (or at all really), feels like it's off its track. Haven't quite fixed that yet but it's on the list. Still have a little bit of a power steering leak too.

I've got a little time scheduled soon for some maintenance, timing belt is due probably due for a change. It'd be a good time to install a new cam and seals too I think.

In related news, I got myself a crane and an engine stand from Harbor Freight. I'm almost actively on the lookout for a good block. It looks like there's a 93 or 94 940 at the JY. Met some local Volvo folks at an IKEA meet, shout out to the Rocky Mountain Volvo Owners Club and crew.
 
Last timing belt put on was about 10 years ago, figured I'd give it a go. Pretty sure I got the timing setup correctly but the power steering tensioner gave up the ghost. Must've been the last guy. Ordered some new belts, spring tensioner, and power steering adjuster. Hopefully it'll be off stands by the end of the week.

 
It ended up being slightly more difficult than I expected but all in all, not too bad. IPD had the power steering tensioner in stock and was pretty quick to get it out to me. Got the replacement tensioner installed and a fresh alternator and AC belts, the power steering belt I suspect was too short and I ended up re-using one the other belts.

Started it up, sounds just fine. Phew. Pulled the headlights in preparation for some Euro e codes, just need to finish up splicing the connectors. Pulled the front chrome trim piece as I was able to source a replacement I'll throw on.

88 may have been the K or B230FTK
K for titanium lifters springs etc

88 GLE was V6 Peugeot, you've got a 1988 760 Turbo
 
To prevent breaking the long wimpy tensioner bolts, you need to use them just to temporarily apply tension before tightening down the main front/back slider bolts. Once the slider bolts are tight, loosen the tensioner bolt until its just past finger tight. This way, the vibrations go through the main slider bolts and don't break the tensioner bolt.

This is a great tip, appreciate it. It certainly could've been me who didn't loosen the slider bolt before I loosened the tensioner bolt. I'll have to double check I've loosened them now that they're tightened down.
 
Think there are GM tensioners that work
