flex pipes

rid yourself of the oem marshmallow motor mounts and forgot about a flexpipe.

you mean hockey pucks huh???
Wouldnt that lower the volvos safety since the engine is supposed to drop in the event of a head on collision. Or would to drop either way?

Anyways what do they do!?!

If you are going to hit something hard enough to drive the motor back, having stiffer motor mounts isn't going to make much difference.

What are the benefits of throwing one in a 3'' exhaust, and what size is good?
thanks

they flex.....so less likely to cause damage to other parts of the exhaust if fully ridged, the motor moves around, you cannot expect the entire exhaust to like being flexed about.

you don't "have" to "have" one, but why not do it right and have some piece of mind....

size? go back and read what size exhaust you want....you answered your own question :)

I had a custom exhaust made my 142 with a B20 has a 3rd mount added to stop the engine from moving around didnt think I needed a flex pipe but my exhaust cracked and my motor hardly moves. so it is going in next week for a flexpipe and new muffler I used a glasspack and while it sounds great at 6500rpm it is to loud(guess that means I am old) realy loud and it is a toy not a DD I do drive it alot, flex pipes are a good idea in my opinion.

ps I have 2.5in exhaust so I am usiing a 2.5in flex pipe;-)

man I didnt mean the diameter of the flex pipe, I meant what would be an effective length?
thanks for the info, even if yall rip on me:)

1st you wrote:

then you read:

Ooooooooooooor stiffen the motor mounts and still get a flexpipe.

then you posted:

winnerrrr

also correctly hanging the exhaust is a good thing to do.

make up your mind....or do you decide to go with the most "correct" or "yes" threads? :wtf:

as to length question, I'd go with shortest possible, seems less likely to fail, the really long ones might be for applications with a lot expected flex or someone trying to cheat and use it as a curved portion of the exhaust

One time punching the throttle my exhaust split in two at one of the welds. It can be a frightening experience if your car uses the pipe to pole vault.
