This weekend in PNW autocross. I went up to PIR and ran with Oregon Region PCA. That was quick and fun. 7 runs and done by 1:00 PM. Two of the clubs I run with put on the ORP Track-cross double header this weekend. Daisywagon ran both days. The Track-cross is a hybred event. An Autocross on a full size road course. The speeds are much higher. My friend Steve lives within 30 minutes of Oregon Raceway Park and knows the track like the back of his hand. I figured he would do really well Sunday. Steve is the same driver in the white Mustang in the post above. Here is his fastest run from Sunday.

That track event looks like a blast!

Wondered who was driving that White mustang, it was very fast.

It was a really fun weekend, even for the slow car. The time gap grows quite a bit on longer courses. Here was my fastest run at 148.556

Recently tested out driving my AW70 slush box in D1 for shorter autocross tracks where I'm not likely to get beyond 45ish mph. I don't know how much D1 can handle (think autos first gear normally upshifts at WOT around 35-40mph) but I pushed it into the redline a couple times. There's not a whole lot you can do with an auto, but I'm trying.

Saturday's course with BCA was very similar to the course WMC used Sunday. It was a bit faster in places. 58 mph was peak speed entering the stop box.

Kind of funny. With only 3 days to go until tomorrow's event #5, someone noticed a circus setting up at the venue we use. Apparently, they double booked it, or bumped the AutoX, but somehow didn't think to notify anyone at the STL SCCA about it. Someone just happened to be passing by and saw it.

That sucks. We had the same thing happen with the parking lot at the local baseball stadium. Management forgot that they booked us for an autocross event on the same day they had a game scheduled. Of course, they canceled our club’s contract for the day.

I just put Koni Sports on the 945 only to discover my RF wheel bearing is on it's way out. My new bearing should be here a day before the next event.

it'll be down to the wire but I should be able to get it fixed in time as long as UPS doesn't drop the ball.

I must also admit that I've been keeping an eye out for a cheap S197 Mustang GT to run in CSM... 300hp, rwd, with a .800 pax sounds like a great time.

Yes it does. It should be a fairly inexpensive class to run in.

Yeah, once the car is built you won't have to keep modifying it to keep up. The tires aren't the cheapest but I've read they last a lot longer than the fastest 200TWs

There's only two other CSM cars around here but they're co-driven so 4 other people. There's always at least one in the top 10 pax in our region (usually around 150 entrants total)

The hardest part is finding a mustang that isn't modified to hell, clapped out, or an owner who doesn't think a 20 year old mustang with 150k is worth 10k+

Last weekend was the Packwood SCCA Solo National Tour. This year I ran in CAM C for the heck of it. My car is seriously out gunned in F Street. CAM C is no different. I might as well hang out in grid with a bunch of Mustangs vs. Camaros. Last year on a new, properly heat cycled RE-71s I ended up within .78 seconds of the winning CAM C car. I ran on the same set of tires which have a lot of tread left, yet, are heat cycled enough now they were way off pace. I thought that might be the case, yet, I didn't really care. I did not want to spend $1,700 for new tires to run at an event that even if I go totally prepared, it would take a miracle to win. Especially, since my friend Steve entered this year and has a very well set up CAM C 2015 GT and is a SCCA Nationals winning driver. I had a great time. Good people, excellent competition and awesome weather all weekend. The Packwood SCCA Pro Solo event is going on this weekend. I thought about running in it, however, two of these events so close together was too much to pull off.

A couple of shots of my GT on course.

Steve's fastest runs from both days. His car is like a slot car. You have to wedge in and hold on in order to not injure yourself riding along.

Another friend of mine and excellent driver in his CAM T Mustang. Ron Aasted. Ron is almost always in the top 10 PAX at any event he goes to. He made the mistake of coming to this event on brand new tires. No bueno. They slipped like crazy Saturday. Woke up somewhat on Sunday. By then he was running such a deficit there was no hope of a trophy. Live and learn. This run is from Saturday. He picked up over 2 seconds on Sunday after the tires had a scrubbing, intense heat cycle and cooled off overnight so the molecular bonds in the rubber could reform.

Howdy y'all,

Been lurking for a while and saw some familiar locations, hoping to meet some local fellow Volvo and autox fans! I started taking my '13 S60 T6 to NWAA and PCA events in the summer of '24. So far, I've attended two events at Packwood, one event at PIR and one at Dallasport (RIP). Here's some photos from the events I've attended:

I don't intend on running this car in autocross any longer than I have to as it is my daily. So far it has been a blast and I hope to at least learn some fundamentals in it; eventually I hope to pick up a 244 for ax. I'm currently more worried about enjoying the car I'm driving to it's fullest and not too worried about being competitive. At this most recent event I ran a 45.9 which put me middle-ish of the pack and I'm almost certain the car could've done so much more in the hands of a competent driver. My current set up is mostly stock minus IPD springs, a strut tower brace and Indy 500s. Going into the '26 season I hope to attend majority of PCA's PIR events as they are the closet to me. Any advice on attacking the cones in a 4000 lbs awd slushbox?

My advice is to attend one of the driver's clinics put on by BCA, WMC or Oregon Region SCCA. You will start out working on good driving habits. PCA, NWAA, BCA and ORSCCA all hold events at PIR. PCA is one of my favorite clubs to run with because they run a well organized event that normally concludes by 1:00 PM. The drawback to running with PCA is you can't have anyone other than a club instructor in the car with you. BCA and ORSCCA allow passengers. That way, you can ride with other competitors and have them ride with you so you can learn from each other. My advice is get as much seat time as you can and have other experienced competitors ride along to give you pointers on technique. Hopefully, we will cross paths at some of of the 2026 events.

The 2026 Autocross season is off and running in the Pacific Northwest. Two weekends ago BCA held their first event on a wonderful weather weekend. Saturday was a driver school and Sunday was their first event of the season. I know Daisywagen attended that event. I was still under the weather and didn't have either my BMW or Mustang GT ready to go. Last Sunday was the Icebreaker, non-points event for EESCC. We had a great turnout and decent weather for the event. There was a slight misting rain for 10 minutes or so during the very last session while I was working the course. The pavement never got wet. The lot was like a gravel bar which is typical at Valley River Center. Staying on the line is critical. A foot off line and you are in the gravel which acts like ball bearings in a Keystone Cops movie. Plenty of cars spun out. A Miate spun in the stop box and slammed into the light pole with it's right rear wheel/tire. If you take a look to the left where I am stopping at the stop sign you will see a black circular outline on the side of the light pole base. That is from the tire. The Miata had to be moved off course using a floor jack. I don't care much for this venue due to the rough pavement that tears tires to shreds, comes loose and causes gravel bars at the edge of the course and has light pole and concrete islands that are easily in the path of an out of control car. I run there just because of tradition and run at about 85% of whatever car I'm driving is capable of. Sunday, I still did not have either my BMW or Mustang ready so I ran my trusty, daily driver, totally stock Volvo 940 Turbo. This is the first time in about 15 years I was able to run a car at 100% at this venue. It was pedal to the metal over much of the course. A young man came out for his first Autocross ever in his 1991 240 wagon running Bilstein shocks/struts and IPD bars. He was on stock 14"steelies with 195/70-14 tires. It was fun watching him learn and improve. He rode along in the 940 before he made his runs in last session. I knew the 940 would entertain folks if nothing else. I heard several comments on how much body roll the thing has. The starter's comment when I'm at he starting line for my last run made me laugh. "You were 2 wheelin' it out there". Anyway, 5 runs, all clean, getting faster each run.

Run 2 with Bryan the 240 owner riding along.

Thanks. I was right at home. Sunday was a trip back in time. Over the 2008-2010 Autocross seasons I ran an 89 Bertone, 91 780 Coupe and Greg Ervin's wild, highly modified 740 Turbo. The layout was very familiar. The amount of power, grip, roll stiffness etc was radically different. It took 2 runs to see what the 940 was capable off and then I kept it right at the edge of its capabilities. It would be a blast to give your car a try.
