GPIO Module

I'm looking for a CAN based GPIO module for a work project, and if it was in a somewhat ruggedized enclosure that would be a big bonus.
I initially looked into the current microsquirt controllers, but it's very limiting and would require a second one to be used as a CAN IO module for added expansion.

I know there is the generic GPIO boards offered via B&G, but I don't have much experience with them and what the tuning/setup software is like.

So what's out there?
How much of a pain is it to use the GPIO firmware?

I have zero experience with the two below expanders, but I do see mentioned for MegaSquirt and MaxxECU installs. The jbperf one may have availability issues.

How many inputs/outputs are you looking for, and anything beyond simple on/off functionality?

Ideally have 5 or so outputs, and at least 3 of them being PWM would be ideal.
We have a generic controller that we use, but the programming is less than user friendly at it's all C based. I'm looking for something that would use a somewhat user friendly SW that allows outputs to be triggered based upon CAN frames being sent to it.

We've used these in the past, but the SW UX is really something else and hard to wrap your head around. They are very good controllers though.

Maybe something like this? It will take a little programming but I'm sure you would be able to handle that.

Otherwise, maybe an RPI4 with a CAN hat and a relay hat to handle the IO.

I’m working on some enclosures right now for RPI4 based I/o stuff.

If you’d rather design something and send over some steps, I could probably add them to the nylon prints or throw some scraps on a mill to make you boxes. #machinedaluminumeverything
