Help Keep Davis Alive (2027 and beyond)

Hi everyone,

Davis co-chair Jo here. Many of the folks who have led Davis and kept it alive for the last 1-2 decades are "retiring" from the Davis meet planning committee after the 2027 year. The 2027 year is going to be the big blow out final year for several of us.

This includes myself, my co-chair/Sac Volvo Club president, and two other members who have been our longtime backbones and leaders of the Davis meet. We also had another key member retire last year.

In other words, the Davis meet is at risk of vanishing after 2027.

If you love the Davis meet and have organization and planning skills, the Davis meet needs you!

We would really love to have a batch of new volunteers join us to plan the 2027 meet so they can learn the ropes. Of course the folks who have been around a long time will still be available to help the new folks navigate planning a Davis meet, but we will no longer be able to drive the bus.

If you are interested, please reach out to myself or email the club email at socialmedia@sacvolvoclub.org, or come talk to us at the meet this year.

Thanks all.
- Jo

Hopefully some new blood will take over. I'm too far away to manage this from Monterey, but I do have access to some very skilled automotive event organizers, so I can provide support remotely. I stopped doing that when Justin ??? took over, he was bad for the event.

Thanks for the offer of support, I've heard you're involved in various Monterey Car Week shows and we'd love to have your help. No one is too far away!

I live in rural Nevada (4 hrs away from Davis), as does another one of our long-time volunteers. We do monthly zoom calls to plan the event so it's very easy to get involved even if you're not local to Sac area!

I went to Davis every year, even tolerated that Justin asshole, the one who cried about his work being for free, but wouldn't do it or let anyone else take over. He liked being the boss, but didn't like the work, and had the personality of a condescending realtor. Since his departure it has recovered, and hopefully will continue to go strong.

I'll consider getting involved remotely, but cannot guarantee attendance due to my husbands travel schedule. Working with a team here on a huge Monterey Car Week event, and possibly another event in spring with the exotics, but I can find time. I'm about 3 hours away, which isn't too bad, just hard with our schedules. Let's talk about this after the event, maybe the group will see some benefit from my time and skills.

My only main desire for any change is to bring back the Thunderhill track day. i know that alone probably takes up as much if not more effort as the Sunday meet. It’s something I would personally like to lend my time and effort into.

That may be something to look at given the hoopla around next year. Might be tricky to organize though.

If there’s a snowballs chance of it happening, best thing to do would be to start planning and trying to secure the dates sooner vs later, and get a head start on letting people know it’s on.

That way people can get moving on their plans to attend/run. I’ve seen Volvo racer reunion type things on the east coast, but something should happen out here.
