Kyle's RWD Experience, '84 242 TI

I'm doing my damnedest to try and get into another set of BBS RS for this car. Basically I've decided that the RS 111 are just not going to work out for this car because the brakes are so damn big. I've got a line on what seems to be a 17x8 and 17x9 set with larger faces and offsets.

The rub of course is I'm going to have to sell not only the RS 111, but also the Style 5 to afford them. There's a lot of Volvo motivation floating around the shop lately, maybe this thing will run again in 2023.

If you want to keep the RS111 you could always think about our medium kit, designed to fit under 15 and 16" wheels.

I can send you a clearance template if you want to check

I appreciate that Ben and I'll think on it. I was gonna stretch to 17" anyways with them, so I just need to decide if the spec I want to end up with is worth the risk on these, or if I should just buy something closer to what I really want.

And all of it needs to be replaced by now

That push lock stuff really seems to dry rot quick, I'm probably going to run hard line under the length of the car.

When I first got my V8 swap running, I was surprised!, shocked! dismayed! that some fuel line stuff I'd done only a couple of years prior for the V2.0 16VT drivetrain was dry rotted and leaking. Pristine looking stainless steel braided hose, with fuel coming out of it. This was in the back by the tank, too, not near the engine and subject to heat cycles and oil and stuff.

Small update here. I sold my 16v GTI project to try and kick this build back off. I bought a tig welder and I'm sizing barrels/lips for the RS now.

This is probably going to take a long time to come to fruition but I want to build this car to the vision I've had for it for years, and fix/replace all of the junkyard turbobricks shenanigans that it's had since the beginning. In other words I want to finish building the car correctly.

I'm fielding options now for worked over 531 heads mainly. My real wish is to maintain the driving dynamics I like while keeping the car 8v for the noise and spirit of the dirty red block. So good usable power throughout the range, 7k rpm redline, choppy idle. I think the cylinder head is really where this needs to start. Figure out a head setup with some overhead, then build the rest of the car around it to drive how I want. I like a little lag, but what I'm dreaming of is a car I can beat on in the mountains all day, drive it to VIR and drive it home, road trip cross country, that kind of deal.

Not too much to ask right?

Goals:
400hp with as flat of a torque curve as I can muster
Air conditioning
Fitment™️

Flat torque curve requires 8 more valves

How wide? 17x9 would be a nice size, front and rear. I always liked the idea of having 4 of the same so I could rotate them.

If you need a 531, I have one that came off my car, has larger valves, but not much else done to it. I also have a cracked core with the seats removed, from the mikeP collection. that one would need a lot of work, including the cracks welded up, but if you wanted to try something like welded/reshaped combustion chambers, it could be a starting point.

I think Kyle has something considerably more boujee than a 531 in mind.
