M46 vs M47

How much less does the M47 weigh than the M46?

~105lbs for an iron M46 with bell housing and OD, no shifter/clutch fork. ~80lbs for an aluminum M47 in the same condition.

That is 20 lbs difference, I was expecting an even more significant difference

No ,that's 25 lbs difference 105-80=25.

Funny, in my memory they seemed to be lot heavier than that when under the car.

Well, i can remove/install an m47 on a lift by myself without a trans jack. Wouldn't dare try with an m46.

Eat your wheaties in the morning then try it. Do you use the benchpress method for removal?

Are we talking about iron cased M46 vs aluminium M47?

Edit: yes,
I've got an aluminium M46, but that's normal vor Europe I think, or do you have the aluminium M46 in US as well? I don't know..

The older M46s in the US had iron cases. Later one they switched to aluminum.

I think all 7/9 series with m46 are alu, while 2-series had steel?
