M90 Swap into low mileage 940T worth it?

Just do it!!! Best upgrade that I have made and experienced so far....You DO Want to do the 3rd Gear Sychro Welding mod to further beef up the Stop Ring so a Missed Shift doesnt leave you stranded...I refreshened with New Input Shaft Bearing, New Seals, 3rd Gear Stop Ring Mod as well as New Hardware on the shift linkage, hydraulic pedal linkage(I bought Steel Clutch pedal) and new slave and master cylinders...You pretty much want to go over the Gearbox and associated pieces, including front prop shaft rubber and driveshaft rubber and mounts...I replaced u-joints as well while I was "In there"....Whatever it takes to make it a 1 Fingerprints Affair...
Good info, thank you! I wen through the article recommended above last night and I think that I have my head wrapped around it. Looking to purchase from a guy in the UK I got in contact with via one of the FB groups. Hopefully it shows up!

I have the auto 3.73 gears behind a M90M90M90.

I would recommend NOT running the 3.73 on a daily. 1st gear is short and 5th gear revs over 3k at about 65-70mph

I daily mine with the auto gear ratio, it's ok but I agree that a 3.31 or a 3.55 would be so much better for the commute. I take mine on the highway probably at least once a week, I'm usually sitting between 2600 and 3100-ish RPM to keep up with the highway traffic. The one nice thing about the higher cruising RPM is you always have passing power.

I'm typically cruising in fifth to keep the RPMs down when going 50-70 km/h which is typical road speed in my area. I agree that first gear is really short, too - it's practically a non-gear since it seems I can start in second.

I got my M90 from the UK with "under 100k miles". I can feel that second gear is harder to get into than other gears. Same thing with reverse.

A worn/used manual trans will have various shifting issues that you won't have with an auto, but it will be a lot more fun to drive.

I'm pretty sure the PO of my car got the transmission from ClassicSwede as well.

Ah, mine is a little stiff getting into first when the car is in motion, but the rest of my gears are comparatively smooth as butter. Probably a case where driving style of whoever owned the car the transmission was originally in is a factor.

After owning a 245 with an M46, the M90 makes the other Volvo manuals feel like a piece of agricultural equipment

My M90 is still shifting smooth like butter with about 290k miles on it and a little bit more power in front.
And 1st gear is really short even with whatever ratio that came stock with manual cars.

My m90 came out of a car that was running 550 horse power.

The trans is fine. And will be good for anything you guys throw at it.

These transmissions however need you to check the bushings on the shifter and on lever where it mounts to the transmission as well as a good transmission Mount.

Yes 250 HP is absolutely safe. Everything can be borked with the right amount of abuse at almost any power level.
Its not the strongest transmission out there but it is not as weak as some people say.

For oil, I've used Valvoline GL-4 75W-80 transmission oil and the box shifted fine.

I guess Volvo has moved the part numbers to “NLA” and the remaining supply has dried up.
Sachs apparently scrapped all of the tooling for the 850R clutches and pressure plates. Tenaci sell a friction disk that fits the M56/M90, which when paired with a Sachs 3082 634 022 pressure plate. gives a similar feel to the old 850R setup. This is the setup that classicswede provides with the TTV flywheel setup, and is what I've been running in my 740 with ~260 crank hp

Does that pressure plate fit the stock whiteblock flywheels? Or does the flywheel need the bolt pattern / dowel pattern changed?

That's something I should check out at some point. I have literally no idea what flywheel the PO put in my car before I bought it - whatever it is, I'm hoping I can find an alternative to the 850R clutch to just slap in there without swapping flywheels.
