So the original green car that started this thread https://pbase.com/mikejr/image/173159016 ended up being a rusty turd, so I sold it and moved on, but a few weeks ago a very decent 69 164 came up for sale in Asheville NC, so I went up to take a peek.

This one is not a rusty turd, so I pulled the trigger, but I did pay a little more for it. These early cars in this shape are so hard to find.
This one was a California car till 2007, then went to Colorado for a year, then went to Asheville NC till yesterday. It now has a new home in the ATL

It's an automatic car which I'm not mad about. I will probably keep it that way. I really would like to do just suspension and wheels and just tinker after that. Some of the things on this thread I'll edit to be in keeping with this new car.

Looks like it's going to be lots of effort for that one. The one I sold you was a keeper. I've never seen another one with the pod tach like that one had. I miss it now and know what you mean about them growing on you. That 69 was super fun to drive and felt very comfortable yet could handle the road well for a stock Volvo suspension. Wish you well with it Mike!

Yeah I wish I still had that one. I stayed in contact with the guy I sold it to for a long time, and messaged him to try and buy it back, but he won't respond.

Gotta do the chrome or stainless trim rings around the headlights if you have a 164. To me, they look so much classier with those than with the body colored ones.

Yes I agree

I also picked up a NOS set of original fog lamps

You can do all the fun things to a B30 that you can to a B20. Triple DCOE's and 3.2L bore?

****07/02/2024 THIS IS FROM THE GREEN CAR. I'M LEAVING THE NEW ONE CARB, BUT I'LL LEAVE THIS HERE CAUSE IT'S COOL****

We did start mocking up the more modern fuel injection system and we're scraping the D-jet. I got some fuel rail bar stock, and a fancy Bosch injector drill bit to make a custom fuel rail for it.

Here's the only photo I have of my first car. It was a 71 164 my dad got me when I was 15. That's one of my friends in the picture. The motor blew up before I turned 16, but I did get to drive it a lot that year.

Thanks for the link to the pics of the 69. Was strange to see the old barn pictures I sent you.

You look like a happy guy with that 164. Good times. Looks like a great start on the latest one!

My vote is for 165 since wagon>everything else, but awesome to see someone actually playing with a 164. Exited to see where you take the B30 in there.

Suspension you say?
