Mike Jr's Sick A$$ 164 project

I had just started working at the dealer in late summer 1974 and got to replace the efi harness on a almost new one.

From my OP

"Now I'll start by saying that I'll probably scrap this project a quarter of the way through like the last 5 projects I've started so don't get your hopes up"

Can't say I didn't warn ya'll :-P

Wow that looks like a really clean front end Mike! Everytime I read your posts about a 164 it starts the memories of our shared blue one.
I know I still regret selling it, plus the guy that bought it has kind of trashed it and wouldn't respond to my messages about buying it back.

This white one is as nice structurally, and nicer cosmetically.

The blue one is gonna become one of the Volvos in the woods like Dean is working with.
Edit: Really glad you found your keeper. Looking forward to your adventure.

Ok so I ordered all my suspension on this thing and I'm getting the wheels redone. I have the works wheels but I'm not sure which car I'm going to use them on, so in the meantime I'm going with a 15x7 one piece BBS RA wheels. Like these

Pictured is a set I did a few years ago but I have a new set that will end up looking the exact same.

I'm also going with a pretty aggressive set of tires. Toyo Proxes R888R 225/45R15

Who is doing the wheel refinishing? I have a set of MSWs I need to do something with soon, debating doing my own work.

Hopefully Sam doesn't see this...he's gonna wonder why the ASS 164 is hanging on his bumper at MTNMEAT.

lol ASSVO

I’m using a local wheel company and they’re giving me a huge discount because we use them a lot at the shop.

I'm still undecided which route to go with the transmission. I'm 50/50. It'd be nice to have it as a vintage cruiser and keep the AT or at least upgrade to a AW71

I found a guy that makes a AW71 to 164 BW35 adaptor plate.

He also cuts and welds the bellhousings for manual cars. In lieu of finding a M410 if I went with a M410 bellhousing mated with a M46 bellhousing then I could use the DeeWorks T5 adaptor plate I have and go that route too. It would still require a lot more to do the swap like pedals, drive shaft, master cylinder.

Since I'm indecisive I grabbed both the M410 and BW35 bellhousings for a 164

Damn state side ?

I pulled the trigger and ordered the adaptor plate from the guy in the Netherlands. He send me some additional photos and loose instructions.

He said I'll have to drill out the bellhousing holes to 8.5mm

He also said that I'll need to cut 49mm off the back of the AW71 bellhousing to attach to the plate.

Pretty cool. I can't wait to get it and start the swap.

Auto was the way to go in that car. T5's suck (I have one, I know!)
Yeah I think it's the way to go. This car is a luxury cruiser lol

Last night I replaced the bushings in the linkage between the shifter and the transmission. The rod literally came off in my driveway moving it around. Thank goodness it didn't fall off on the 3 1/2 hour trip back from Asheville. Big thanks to Hi Performance Auto for the bushings.

Tech tip: Best way I found to install these bushings is to heat them up with a heat gun first to make them a little more pliable
