My 1981 242 DL

Thanks, yeah, no other way! We shall see!

There's a few interesting people i met recently at my mrs work, the pub that she's a shef at, that i am waiting to speak soon. That might make a bit of a change, but ya never know :)

Carvery?

Mmmmmmm. British Pub food.

Don't knock it if you haven't had it.

So as i can't work on the car, as it's locked away ina container in a secure place, where they don't allow any activities, i started searching for the parts of the puzzle called mayhem lol...

Got this subframe off a nissan 350z...

I have been quoted anything from 300 to 450 british pieces of currency for one, so i just laughed most of the time, but then this ebay ad turned up, offered them £85 and hey presto!

That will be interesting to make it all work on the good ole 242,but its' all great experience and challenge!

And now i can't post pics as i am on my phone lol.

Anyway, soon!

Hey all!

Another bit of an update to the thread that doesn't have anything happen on it lol..

I had a couple chats to the machine shop i used when i had to rebuild the d5 engine on my old xc70 a few years ago. I want to take my 16v head and get them to clean it up, see if it's all good with the valves, then do the 3 way valve seat job and cut the seats for a mil or so, so there's a bit more flow. I am not sure yet what's the good turbo cam availability for these so i can use a bit more rev range and so on and what to do with the hydraulic lifters. I am willing to keep the lifters as the yare, just not sure of how reliable it will all be if i rev it a bit higher, probably to around 7500 or such. I will have a read here as i remember someone used other crank dampeners to be safer while doing more than usual revs and so on.

Also, i am waiting while a friend of mane is finished mocking up his engine with the b234 pistons, so i will see what it's all about of probably use them to build a simple little b230 fk block with 16v pistons and better rods just to have something to do while i am garage/workshopless...

There's so much stuff happening in my head about how i'd like the whole car to turn up in the end, but without a place to work on it i will not have a chance to see if all that work...

Anyway, laters!

Hey there people!

Finally there's a bit more news from my pond!

I already started moving all the crap from the container to the newly acquired Garage. I didn't realise how much stuff i have accummulated there, so it takes a bit of extra time, but it's all getting there. The 242 will probably be moved this coming weekend, and i will try to make some kinda of a video if i don't forget my camera haha.

On the other hand, i have acquired the front brake calipers that i will be using on the 242. They are Brembo calipers, 6pot, off a L494 Range rover sport. Just waiting for them to be delivered, so i can see what i need to do with them. I will try to refurb them, and wait til i need them. They were quite cheap. £200 for the pair delivered to where i live, so that will do. 349mm brake discs go with them originally, so i think it will work well, just need to have the wheels that can go over the damn things as they are massive.

Will get some pics when they arrive.

That is all for now. Will keep you posted!

A question for the more advanced tuer bois over here...

Has any of you folk ever used a half a set of bnv m3 v8 throttle bodies on a 16v redblock? I am toying with an idea of buying a full set of them and using one bank on mine, then selling another side to make my money back a bit.

Cheers!

Cheers!!

I know that people use those throttles, yes, but my thinking was that WeemerDubs engineers spent ungodly ammount of cash researching and designing those components, so i think it would be good to use it all.

We shall see some time haha

The only thing I can think here is that they were designed for a motor that's pulling in a ton more air than your std redblock. Yes, 4.0l V8 so theoretically the sameish displacement but a ton more cam and double the valves. That said, be a pioneer and go for it. Love to see out of the box thinking.

Well, I am using a ported 16v head plus cams, stronger valve springs and so on, plus it will have a massive hx52 strapped to it aswell, so i bet it will breathe well

Oh hi there!

So there's the newz!

Tomorrow, if all goes well, the 242 will meet her new home, the tiny garage near my house. That should be interesting. Let's hope it all fits nice and snug with some room for all the rest of the garbage i got in the container that i have hoarded in the time being for the improvements.

I shall update when shiz will hit the fanny!

Hello there again!

Here's another update!

I had a call from the container people that the 242 is stored, and they threatened me with debt collectors etc, so i got to move out end of this week. So i arranged with my car transporter contact to move the shell to the garage. I really hope it actually fits there and i got some space to stuff the rest of the container shiz into it aswell lol.

I'll film some of it and shove it all on youtube at some point this week when i am doing stuff.

Be well all, ADam
