My 1981 242 DL

So here we go, the place for the 242 for the future!

7m x 4.5m... Electrics, water etc included in rent, so WINNER!!!

These are, as you might have seen in the videos, the rear wheels for the 242. Cosmis racing xt006r. 18x11 ET8... I have dreamt of these wheels for years, so bit the bullet and got a pair for the rear as that's where it will all need to be adjusted the most. The fronts are 18x9.5 ET10, so very manly sizes...

Here's the whole place as it is... Still need to make a workbench and some other shiz to get, but it's all happening...

20251227_141140.jpg

Started patching the inner arches on the rear as i have cut them out to make room for the wheels...

And here's where we are now...

Please don't mind the shoddy spot welding. It will all be cleaned off and covered by overfenders of some sort, but that's for another day, when the whole rust situation is under wraps lol...

20260205_183735.jpg20260205_183738.jpg20260205_183744.jpg20260205_183753.jpg20260205_183809.jpg20260205_183824.jpg

And yesterday i started on the other side inner arch, which will get the same treatment as the opposite side, which hopefully take way less time as i just need to repeat the process...

Till next time!

Thanks gents!

I am finally in the process of making hell of a progress on this thing haha. Spent a whole week a few hours a day just patching bits in the arches as you can see... It's a slow steady pace, but it's progress, way more than in the past feww years.

Thanks all!

So...

Now i have realised that the rotisserie is an amazing thing, but... The center of gravity on the shell is way high up and if i need to turn it around i need to move it around 250mm downwards, meaning i need to take all of it off the spit and weld some square section so i can mont the shell alot lower than it is at the moment as i am not able to turn the car over on my own because of all the weight of it just sitting there and trying to turn over lol...

Live and learn...

See ya soon!

Once that rotisserie is set up how it needs to be that will make life so much easier and quicker for the work that needs to be done . 👍

Hooray!

Another little update.

I have adjusted the rotisserie so now the car has way better center of gravity and i can easily rotate it any way i want apart from fully upside down, as the roof of the car catches on the structure on the bottom of the jig. Oh well, that well do!

I have finally nearly finished plating up all the inner arches in the back so the massive wheels fit properly, and also, i can lower the car as much as i need for it to look good.

I am planning to fully seam weld the chasis and all that is only spot welded allover the body, but, i have ran out of gas, so that will have to wait for a bit.

On the other hand tho, i am getting a massive bottle of pure argon gas and a friend is letting me use his TIG for as long as i need it, so that might change alot of things. I can't bloody wait to start playing with TIG.

Last few days i have been removing as much of sound deadening as i can and now ther's only a couple of places that has it remaining.

So yeah, it's happening!

Cheers for coming round!

Update time!

Not on the 242 tho, but on daily things...

I finally bought a car for myself! Finally got a daily that i can go to work and so on in... The Citroen i was using was always meant for my boss... I mean the mrs or my woman or whatever you can call that ladeee that cooks amazing foor and doesn't moan about my hobbies and so on... And now she's passed her driving test, she can drive it and be free. Meaning i no longer need to do the school runs every day as i have done since September last year...

So, meet the beast of my fleet...

It's a 2016 Volvo V60 Cross Country D4 AWD.

It's done just over 53k miles and is in amazing condition.

I know you US fellers don't have that many diesel dailys, so this is a bit different from your usual volvos...

This one is a 2.4 5 cylinder d4, 190bhp, 400nm auto Haldex powered beast that i bought a few weeks ago..

I needed to go back to work as my mrs has passed her driving test and can now drive my 2013 shitroen that i bought a few years ago and fixed all up.

Damn i love being back in the proper volvo!!!

YES!

Here goes....

I have been contacted by someone that has a 242 GT in the uk, and after some mad conversations i have discovered... That there was only one 242 GT sold in the uk, and the other 4 have been imported mostly from Japan...

And, to make matters more rare, there's not more than 14 to 16 242's in the uk at all... Wowzers!!!

On another note, I have looked at some data on the wiki and so on, and discovered that the rear end of a volvo 240 is around 200mm shallower that of a nissan 350z... And i am thinking... This is gonna be a wide ass biach to make work lol, especially with a set of 18*11 ET8 wheels in the back lol...

We shall see soon as i am getting a complete rear suspension from a breaker including all the mounting points etc.

I'll be bak!

A few weeks back tried investigating some bubbling in the back of rear passenger footwell... Oh crapola!!!

Need more 1mm steel!!!

photo_2026-07-01_17-56-53.jpgphoto_2026-07-01_17-56-56.jpgphoto_2026-07-01_17-56-59.jpgphoto_2026-07-01_17-57-02.jpg

So now i got a dillemma... Do i dig deeper or just pretend it's not there? Obviously i gotta do the other side aswell, but I just wanna not see it all lol

So here goes again.... I started digging into the inside of the two body panels that are below the rear seats.... And discovered loads of brown powder....

The thick, bottom part of the body had t o be restored to as much of a good metal as possible, as it's way too risky, i think, to remake it all, so i just cleaned it up, sprayed with some copper primer and welded back in.

Also, you can't see it in the pictures, the inner sill is in a really bad nick, so i am thinking what to do with it... Drivers side (Yes, i am looking to you UK folk, This car is European :D ), where the safety belts bolt to the thick plate, and that plate screws onto the sill, is completely destroyed and rusted away, to the point where i just broke the weld in nuts inside totally off the sill... We shall see... The passenger side is a bit better, but when i poked it with the screwdriver, it went through in a few places... Will need to either make a replacement or buy some unknown quality premade sills i think...

In other words, it's really coming back together nicely and i think that it might be all done shell wise before the new year.

Yesh!!

What time does Sean Connery arrive in Wimbledon????

- Tenish!
