Sometimes, it's helpful to be in the right place at the right time. I just brought home a new car for me, a 1981 242 Turbo. It has a few issues, but I drove it 15 miles to my house with no problems. Runs and drives very well, and as you'll see in the pictures, looks pretty good.

Major problems with the car:
  • Driver's side window got hit by a bb or something similar and is shattered. It's being held together with window tint
  • Smoky McSmokerson - it smells to be a coolant issue, so I'm guessing head gasket. I thought it was rings originally, but it's white smoke and sweet smelling, so that would tell me HG.
Minor problems with the car:
  • Sunroof mechanism seems to be broken
  • OD button seems to be hooked to nothing. It's an M46, so it should have OD. I'll have to check.
  • Odometer and tripmeter brokeded
  • Stumbles a bit until it warms up, then runs good and smooth
  • Pulls HARD to the left
  • Brakes? What are brakes?
  • Head unit that came with the car seems to be dead
  • No IC, so only 5 psi = slow (this will hopefully be resolved with help from stickman... :))
  • Passenger side window doesn't roll up very quickly. Motor seems tired
Honestly, that's about it, and given it was cheap, I feel like I got a steal of a deal. Pics follow (check out those clean Virgos):

nice, looks like it was $750 and you made a successful $550 offer? good job, nice car, nice price.

Yep. Earlier in the year he had it in his yard for $2500. That was before it started smoking, he said.

Oh well, should be a fun car to play with. No huge plans for it, at least now. I plan on Stage 0 + IC and exhaust, and some suspension tweaks. I just want a fun little two door again. I love my wagon, but sometimes, you just need a coupe.
