Spring is here, weather and roads are perfect! I've spent my days off driving the car as much as possible now that it's insured again and has a fresh alignment. Over all I'm on cloud 9 driving the car after working on it for so long. It's a fairly raw experience with the stage 3 clutch and vibrates a bunch at idle thanks to the stiffer motor mounts and lumpy cam.
In another post I was looking for solutions on why the car is running so rich but that issue seems to have cured itself and it's now on the leaner side in boost. AFR's are 10.7-12 at 15psi of boost which is a stark difference from the 8's-9.5's it was at before. Got some green giants in the mail and will see what those change in terms of the hard start it has and poor idle. Otherwise just gonna monitor it over the summer and enjoy driving the car.

My brother brought up his turbo 91 244 for the long weekend. He was the reason I bought my wagon and thanks to him I was able to learn from a lot of the mistakes or things he wish he'd done differently. Now we're in an arms race for more power haha!
He's in the process of gathering parts to put a 16t and T5 in his car. Currently he is running a 12b with the square manifold and a M47. It's a great reliable driver but he wants more power and that little turbo really struggles in the mid to top end.

Modified the under axle exhaust I built him over Christmas since I majorly messed it up and he had about 1'' of ground clearance with the lowering springs in. We had to steal the overload springs off my dads 245 in order to get enough clearance for him to drive home. Fast forward to now and we made it go up and over the axle. It's a tight fit but we were able to tuck it super tight to the car and fit it down past the panhard bar/ fuel tank with loads of space. Even if he slams his car and takes the bump stops out like I had to it should clear no problem.

excellent welding
Thank you. Those are the best welds I've done to date.

I'm still struggling on thin wall pipe. Poor fit up is an issue and also putting to much heat into the metal. I've been messing around with the pulse setting on my machine and it's kind of helping but I think I just need to take more breaks and let the part cool down. The rusty welds on the exhaust are ones I did 4 months ago. Too much heat into the weld/ surrounding metal causing it to loose the stainless properties and now they're super gross and rusty. Learning steps I suppose...

Had these WRX or STI seats collecting cobwebs for a couple years. Decided to put them in the 240.

Made a little mistake here; built the rear bracket before cutting off a vertical portion of the Subaru seat. Still got over 40mm of weld on the seat and bracket.

Required a lot of cutting, installing the seat, removing it to make changes and reinstalling it. I'd have liked to keep the brackets hidden at the front but it's not really possible with these seats. Driver height is about the same and the added bolstering is a fantastic upgrade from the convex 240 seats. It was a lot of work and I'm not exactly looking forward to doing the passenger seat, but it needs to be done.

I've been eyeing that era of WRX seat too, looks like it fits nicely in there. The only thing I don't like is that they look somewhat anachronistic in the 240. Also eying b5 A4 leather seats that look like they can be had in a manual flavor that fits the 240. Honestly though if I wasn't trying to keep things period I would use the WRX seats because they can be had for a song. Nice welding work!

Im currently consider a pair from a 95 celica, decent bolstering and full manual. Also 1st gen foresters, height with both these options is a tad lower than my worn out stock 240. And any bolstering is gonna be great

Yea, if the head pad wasn't so massive these would aesthetically fit so much nicer. E36 M3 Vader seats or retro styled Recaro would be perfect, but no one on TB is gonna fork out the dough for those:ROFLMAO:.
Size wise they're nearly the same dimensions as the OEM 240 seats, super adjustable and are wired for heat. For the price you can't go wrong!

Haven't had much time to do anything on the car other than drive it as I bought my first house and have been busy with moving in, reno's and upgrades!
Plans for this winter are:
- Install wasted spark cleanly and re-do the aux relays and additional wiring I added for the e-fan/ gauges. Nothing wrong with it, I just want it cleaner with connectors and labels.
- Install aluminum fan shroud my brother built for e-fan and rebuild entire rad/ intercooler support with ducting
- Build over axle exhaust. Currently only have 1.5-2'' of ground clearance where it passes under the rear end...

Overhauled the garage, built shelving, installed a sub panel, plugs and lights etc.

My brothers and I put a new roof on the house during the summer and I re-used some of the old roofing to make a fab corner that's fire resistant in the shop. Shouldn't have to stress to hard about welding and grinding inside.

At just under 300 sqft it's a small space but either of my vehicles fit and can be worked on out of the weather which is all that matters!

Work truck :)

Finally got the 245 back in the garage. Been side tracked by work on my taco and my parents just bought a pretty clean AWD 850 turbo wagon that has needed a bunch of work. Whoever did work on it previously was a hack; tps wasn't connected, multiple open vacuum lines in various places, injector o-rings installed wrong and were blocking the nozzles etc.

Built a new fan shroud for the my E-fan. Previously it was attached by a bunch of zip ties and I had chopped up the plastic shroud to make it work.

Riv nuts are pretty cool! I cut out the alu for this shroud and my brother bent it at work. It turned out pretty good!
KAUqoil.jpeg

Took my intake apart and found a lot of oil in it. Catch can had well over 1L of milky oil in it. Haven't emptied out my intercooler yet but I'm a lil worried about what I'll find... Shocked with the amount of oil in the system tbh. Wondering if the breather on the valve cover needs a baffle in front of it?

Typically, yes there should be a baffle between the cap and the inlet to the PCV. If you've ever driven your car and forgot to put the oil cap on? It is pretty messy. Then add any vacuum pulling on there. It can add up.

Thanks for the info. Will build some kind of baffle system this winter.
