A longtime Volvo enthusiast friend of mine recently recommended a Youtube video to me wherein they mentioned the Mountain Meet 2023....this led to a search for a 2025 meet...which led me to this forum. And I had that vague sort of deja-vu moment where I knew I'd been here before. Sure enough- type in my email, hit "forgot password" and...just as easy as setting the valve lash on a B18, there's my account. Volvoclearinghouse. From....September 22, 2010. Wow. It looks like the forum was recently changed, and I don't recall if I'd ever posted anything here...my account shows no activity, but perhaps it was scrubbed after so long.
Anyway, hello again, I'm back, and I'll try to be a bit more of an upstanding active member, this time.
My main interest is in Volvo Amazons. I bought my first back in 2001 or so, and I still have it, though it hasn't been roadworthy in some time. Some folks here may have heard of the 24 Hours of Lemons; I captain a team known as the Tunachuckers. We started off in 2009 racing a Volvo Amazon, and after a dozen or so seasons messing around with various permutations of a terrible late-70's Ford-based product, around 3 years ago got back to racing in an Amazon once again.
I've also done some rallycross with Amazons, which is about as fun as it sounds.
When I'm not busy trying to not wreck an antique car at 100 miles per hour, I curate somewhere between 15 and 20 Volvo's from the 60's and 70's that were saved form the crusher, and provide parts and whatever technical knowledge I have to other Volvo owners. My wife has caught on to my scheme however...the ostensible "business" of selling used parts is mostly just an elaborate scheme to meet and socialize with fellow like-minded Volvo fanatics. But, she doesn't seem to mind the Tunachuckers Volvo Clearinghouse on our property, and my son and daughter seem to be getting into it, so it's become a family thing now. Which is a bit wild to think about...back in 2010 I had no kids....no wife...and far fewer Volvos.
I'll post some more on the junk I have, and the projects currently in the works, but I just wanted to say 'Hi', and hope to have some good conversations and meet some cool folks here.
