Oil cooler sandwich plate replacements - suggestions?

I'm looking to replace the ancient Wahler sandwich plate on a B230 oil filter extension arm. I'm after the type with a thermostat, which passes the engine oil out to an external heat exchanger, not the type that hooks into the cooling system.

Anyone here has experience with Morcal sandwich plates? Will they fit happily onto a B230FT-type oil filter arm?

I binned the whole arm assembly off and ran a take off plate from the block, out to a Mocal remote thermostatic oil filter head. That in turn then runs to the oil to air cooler infront of the Intercooler. All AN10 lines. Pressure and temp sensors in the top of the remote head and hooked up into gauges under the radio.

Works brilliantly.

I've got a stack of the early 7 series plates which remote connection to air-oil heat exchangers. Most are 95*C opening. Cleaning them right now in my U-sonic bath and they should be for sale soon. I've got one that opens at 75*C which I think came from a 240?

OE's used steel tubing with ferrules at the block, so that's how they are configured.

Tons of nice options on the market. Vibrant, Chase Bays, Mishimoto etc all make good ones that use AN fittings. Mishi sells kits so all you would need to do is make your own AN lines.

I need the arm assembly because one engine is being mounted into a RHD 142, and the oil filter would otherwise hit the steering box.

Good to know about the Morcal plate, thanks.

The take off plate is slimmer than any oil filter or the arm...

If it’s a capped plate and not a sandwich, that’s the way to go. Add a remote filter, add a new setrab cooler, skip the thermostat idea,
I've been looking at an oil cooler in my B23 swapped 144. While it isn't RHD the filter with a sandwich plate would definitely hit the idler arm. A remote filter mounted on that expansive inner fender is the way to go.

It might be a good idea where you are. But if you do a filter and cooler in series you don’t want a thermostat in series with those, or below the opening temp it will circulate unfiltered oil.
The only thermostats i have seen are sandwich. To be honest, i have never opened one, but i have one i could peak inside.
Time for additional insight/opinions.

If his PBASE photo albums yet exist, StealthFTi detailed exactly how to remote a filter off his old B21. RIP, Tom Fritz
I've got some ideas. Plan on keeping the stock sandwich for the oil cooler lines and then install a 90 degree hat on top of that for the cooler
