Hi,
Anybody any tips for a out of centre gearbox?
I have a 1982 244 with a B23 engine and M47 gearbox. The gearbox however points a bit to the right inside the transmission tunnel. This did destroy the front driveshaft joint...
I replaced the engine and gearbox mounts but no succes.
Is there any way to adjust the driveline side to side?

I think if it's only a touch you may get away with it some manufactures do run off centre but it isn't correct on volvo maybe it is broken engine mounts 240s I've crossed a couple where engine mounts have broke

I had this issue with my old 93 wagon. It was caused by a broken left motor mount. I had to replace the mount then make sure everything was tightened with the gearbox pushed over to the middle. Then tighten the bolts that hold the mount bracket to the crossmember. There is a small amount of adjustment on the bolts that hold the engine brackets to the crossmember. Not much just a bit that may help.

Seems a real common issue on 240s the bugger is the bigger type 740 mounts don't fit either I tried that but didn't fit so I bough ones from speedings there good just like any tougher mounts slight vibration but not as bad as poly ones I had years ago

I think it's the weight of the a/c compressor and the massive torque my enem cammed stock engine makes.
In the UK I don't think I've seen a 240 with a/c so I'd go with torque more lol must be hard to make fit on right hand drives or something me and a friend supplied and fitted a engine for a guy that had 2 broke mounts god knows how he was driving round without causing any damage

Almost all aftermarket mounts suck, they should be changed every 2-3 oil changes. Especially the right one

The engine mount shield from the 240 turbos is a good part to add when you change the mounts. It was still available from Volvo but who knows for how much longer.
To be honest I'm sure 240 turbos wasn't sold in the UK is love to see original ones engine bay out curiously what turbos so on were stock what engines were fitted 2.1 2.0 or 2.3?

Lol, I forgot they weren't sold in the UK. Which I always thought was silly. One of Volvos publicity photos for the 245 turbo shows one parked in front of Harrods in London. The US got a B21FT which had lambda control and Europe used the B21ET a non lambda version which made about 20 more hp than the US cars. Both were kjet fuel systems.

Ahh so 240 turbo was k jet how did they work reliable or not? Its strange how they market stuff for diffrent country's to be fair I do love 240s out the rwd platforms

I daily drive my 82 from 1995 to 2005. Went from 120k miles when I bought it to 340k now as it sits and waits for attention. Miles per gallon is costly with them. I went back to daily driving n/a 240s and saved a ton of money but miss the boost.

Haha mines the same was n/a 2.0 turbo what surprised me it actually had some pep to it was 1 owner from new I was very surprised when stripped engine it had a slotted A cam in.. done turbo swap I was like ouch she's thirsty but absolutely love driving the thing I think they all need attention now to be fair I had this argument with my dad 20 years ago he bought a 240 glt no exaggeration it was flawless he's chasing that same car I said to him you wont get it on budget you got he goes how do you work that out I said put 20 years on the car you could see his mind tick like crap I'd loved my dad's one if he had it now mines real clean but his was something else

My 82 turbo only broke down a couple of times in ten years of daily driving. Once when the left engine mount was broken it would torque the engine over and pull the coil wire out of the distributor. The other time was when the fuse for the fuel pump would blow randomly due to a degraded engine wiring harness. The wiring shouldn't have anything to do with the fuel pump but it did something weird.

They have wired quirks fuse boxes are crap I found replaced mine it's not been bad to be fair I was lucky never had mount go daily driven for 4 years all done was head gasket had bodge in the bottle from prior so day it overheated I done it was bang on here in UK some parts are getting tough to find at local part places front wheel bearings we're tricky worse one for wrong parts so on turned out good for once lol
