Overdrive Solenoid Wire Snapped, what can I do? (1989 Volvo 240 Sedan)

Hi guys!

Last night I was driving on the beautiful New Jersey Turnpike, and hit a series of a three million bumps. One of those bumps caused my overdrive to stop working. My relay still clicks when hitting the button on the shifter, the light goes on and off, everything works except the actual overdrive. Today, I went under the car today to see if I could find what happened, and I found this...

The wire got severed right by the bullet connector with the plastic (On the side that runs to the Overdrive Solenoid), it's still plugged into the other side of the connector, but it doesn't look like I have enough wire on that side to splice the wire and reuse that male connector. I am just looking for advice as far as what to do with this, is there possibly a place I can buy that connector and maybe splice that?

Any help or insight is always appreciated! Thank you!

The connector doesn't connect to the solenoid, it connects to a different part, which tells the computer when the transmission is in fourth gear.

It can be a PITA to access and release, especially if like me you have big hands: I lower the transmission for easier access.

Pretty sure this is an AW70, in which case it only has one wire which drives the solenoid. There is no transmission computer.

The thing I hate is how the transmission engineers decided that power should be required to engage 4th rather than disengage it... means electrical issues always cause 4th to get locked out.

OP, If it's the car end in your photos there might be enough good wire still hanging off the solenoid for you to solder and heatshrink a very long new wire on... that's what I did. Then you can run your new length of wire up into the cabin (through the grommet under the shifter) and make connnections where they're safely protected inside the car.

Thank you for the response! I think it looks like the Volvo 1 Pole Connector from Dave Barton is it. I am not totally sure though, it looks like it is clipping into nothing. I wonder if this could be some re-engineering done by the previous owner hahaha.
In your picture the mating half of the connector is missing the outer plastic shield. So, yes, it is clipping into nothing. You still need the new connector piece you have in this picture. You can used electrical tape to secure the wire coming from the shifter into the new connector end. Those solenoids were over $150 new when last available. It is worth it to fix the one you have.
