Getting a poo brown 245 tomorrow, looking for inspiration.
And since this is showroom I'll post a pic of a poo brown 242

Picked it up earlier today.. man it is sweet, nothing screams class like a poo brown car with beige interior

Really thinking about getting this kind of roof rails for it:

How are they built? Do they come apart?

Will get pics of the B19 war machine tomorrow

Don't bother with the factory "Chrome Dream" roof rack. Noisy, especially at highway speeds, and a rust magnet, even when installed properly. Am in the process of undoing the damage done to both of our silver wagons by the dealers when the cars were originally purchased. Once done, the cars will be smooth-top, like they were before the monkeys with the drills got to them.

If you need something to carry stuff around on top, find one of the rare removable luggage racks that Volvo sold for the 145's and 245's. Either that, or a decent Thule, Terzo, or Yakima rack system.

I'm not gonna carry a lot of stuff on it.. just going for looks. It's gonna be a summertime cruiser. No more salty roads for this one, also I have this rack lying around:

but it doesent fit the look I'm going for

Was outside in a bazillion degrees below zero and took some pics

Plans are: remove the window tint, change the front turns+headlights for US turns and the small sqares, hopefully that "Chrome Dream" roof rack (think it will be fine), change the interior to a better beige one, with beige plaid (or what its called)inlays in the doorcards and seats, 15" 940 steelies (perhaps with small whitewalls, not sure) with moondiscs, and slam it to the ground.

I also have one of those R-sport blow-thru carburator turbokits lying around, perhaps it will go on this one..

Basicaly it will become a fun retro summer cruiser that hopefully will turn some heads.

You WHAT!
Wanna sell?

Not sure, I actually have 2 of them, one is on the dd.. gonna give the dd a rebuild in the summer wich will include an engine swap(ft)
How about i'll let you know what I decide after thats done?

R sport seat covers, NICE!

I got a couple of bad ones with the car as well.. Have a plan to sacrifice them (use them for a template, both fabric and foam) and build new side supports into the "new" seats before I retrim them.. If that makes any sense.
That way I'll end up with beige seats with side supports

One of the sqares headlights I have was cracked, luckily I found a cheap set in sweden..

Still want to know if that "chrome dream" roof rack comes apart, anybody? the sqare frame thing, is it multi-piece?

The rack shown on the '82 245 Turbo will come apart, then the side rails will flop over. They're hinged. The later racks, used on 1983 and newer cars can be used as roof rails, instead of a roof rack, though. The feet are solid metal, so they don't flop around. Ideally, if you're going to go through with this, I'd find a 1991 240SE wagon to pilfer the roof rails off of. They're very similar to what's used on the 960's and late 940's, but for a 240.

With respect to my comment about rust on the roof, it happens even on cars that are mainly in dry climates. Case in point, my 245 (the one on the far right in the signature pic) came from New Mexico. It still had rust on the roof when I removed the rack. Only surface rust, but still, it had rust forming. I was able to stop it with some POR-15 paint, but will be doing a more permanent fix this summer, while getting the roof and the hood repainted. Will do the same fix on the wagon in the middle, which also had a rack on it originally.

One thing to think about, is how often is it actually dry, warm, and sunny during the summer in Norway? If it's that way for the whole time you'd be driving the car, then you might be ok. If not, then you'll definitely be dealing with eventual rust issues and water leakage.

Sweet, then shipping won't be to bad. Yeah I know about those late 240 rails, but they're not chrome (or atleast I havent seen 'em in chrome)
Just going for looks here, if I actually was going to carry stuff on the roof I would use the rack I have lying in the barn (the one in the picture), but that is getting saved for the other 245 I'm getting over the winter

I totally get your concern about rust, and I have thought about that myself too. But when 20+ years of god-knows-what results in surface rust I think I'll be fine.
It will be a sunshine cruiser, mainly because I think it will be an absolute hell to keep the moondiscs clean:lol:
