I'm pretty sure that is a Championship shirt from Duane Majteka winning the Volvo Historic Series Championship. He won the series for about five years straight. If you ever want to sell that please think of me and PM me. Foreign Autotech was his shop before he opened R Sport Engineering his present business.

Killer table lamp too Jack!

That 1800 was so fast his engine was protested and when they took it apart to check it. It was totally legal! That car was beating Corvettes and an early mustang among many other cars in the series. We would have fields of 40 cars running. That was a great time for Volvo and SCCA racing you hardly ever hear about nowadays. I got some stories though.

Well lets start with Volvo cars N/A. I believe it was 93 or 94. Volvo signed an agreement to sponsor The Volvo Historic Series with the SCCA. Based out of Northern NJ region of SCCA. They provided pace cars and sponsored the entry of each participant. We found out about it at Rockleigh and mutual friends that were racing British cars in vintage racing. It was a vintage class for 79 and older only. Not sure what they used for pace cars at first but by 98 Volvo supplied a new V70R which was sweet.

My brother had a 59 Bugeye race car so he built the car up to SCCA H production specs and got out there around 95. But being newbies he had to do all the classes and beginner racing before he was licensed so it took a couple years to get the car sorted out. Lots of head gaskets and several transmissions later the car seemed to be really sorted and solid. Usually making it through the races without issue.

Lots of Volvos and the track photographers have tons of photos. There were four classes 142 and 1800 were probably the most volvos but there were 122S and PV out there, too. The field would range from Spridgets and MGB, Datsun 510, 240Z, Multiple Corvettes, mid sixties Mustangs. Porsche 356, 914, and early 70s 911s. An awesome mixed bag of fun cars.

Races were typically a run group of the days activities. So for a weekend of sat, sunday racing you would have morning practice, then race in the afternoon. Usually they were 10 lap races which took about 20 minutes to a half hour. Everyone liked having the vintage racers come out. Volvo would buy dinner or lunch for everyone at the track with catered food on random occasion. Probably when a big executive was watching.

When my brother was doing SCCA school event at Summit Point he blew the head gasket. We were kind of newbies at replacing it so Chris Fox from the Wash DC region a long time Spridget racer and champion driver stepped in and changed the head gasket for us. She worked super fast and we were back on track. Later that night as were relaxing in the camper a friend knocked on the door. A guy named Dermit McDermit had a bad starter on his Mallock (looks like a Lotus 7.)and needed help. We checked out the starter and it needed some internal wiring resoldered. We got that done for him and had a tired but very happy night. It was like that. A lot of super friendly people who might be racing against you in the day but would help you if they could.

A good wacky shit story was from the Trans Am corvette that started racing with the group. The damn car was so fast he was lapping the field and cutting the races short on people as the races were over when no1 crossed the line. At Pocono raceway he was very aggressive and forced my brother off the track. Then after the racing was over on Sunday and everyone was packed up and leaving he crashed his rig into our Sprite while it was on the trailer! He was a good guy and paid for fixing the race car and was apologetic. But he put on a different persona when he got in the vette. Push you right off the track if he had to. After a few races of cutting the races short on everyone he was protested and they pushed him into another run group. I think it was GT1.

I'll try to think of some more and post it.
