hi

I have a 1993 240 wagon
and my aftermarket glue on mirror fell off and broke :-(

so I need to source an original
i have a couple of questions

this is what I am left with :

this is the mounting in the roof of my car

do all 240's use the same mirror? between sedan and wagon?

how does the mirror mount up?
does it connect to the screws there in the roof?

thanks for any help you can offer

IIRC the mirror comes with that backing plate already attached so yes remove the screws and get an OE mirror and screw it back in the same place.

I'm not sure, I swear the mirror in my 92 wagon is different than my 83 sedan. either way I should have both, $10 plus shipping if you want one.

245 uses a *different mirror & bracket* from the 240 sedans.

Go to JY and find you a nice 245 mirror, or contact /PM me as I have a couple IIRC.

Yes, the sedan and wagon mirrors differ slightly. The ones for the sedan have a slighty wider base and have two cutouts, one on each side to fasten the cover plate too. And the wagon mirrors do not, so they have a smaller base. However, both would fit but I'd be bugged by the sedan one being improper but that's just me. They both mount in the same way though, so there's no need to unscrew the base. Just pull (literally pull down on the neck) one off a wagon. Now getting it back on is sorta tricky. If you look at your pic and notice there's a little silver rod that runs along the front of the whole. It's a pressure fit/clip. Use a rubber mallet or lay your back on the seat and use your leg muscle to "stomp" or push it back in and yay! You have just installed a good mirror. :) Good luck.

If you're going to the PNP just get it complete don't try to pull the neck off.

I have found one but the bloke says the part number on the base is 1224135 not 1224136 which is on mine

he says they would be the same, but I'm not so sure?

if they were the same they should have the same part number I would have thought?

thanks again guys for all the help

:)

I've definately got sedan mirrors...pretty sure I've got a wagon one but I'll have to check.
I wasn aware of a difference as I've never compared them side by side.

It would be much easier to just remove the mirror base screws, instead of yanking, tugging, and "stomping" with feet.

When I parted my '82 wagon back in 2011, I saved the mirror as a "just in case" item. About 3 weeks ago my friend bought a '93 245 auto, didn't have a mirror, just an after market one. Grabbed the one from my '82 and popped it right in. No worries mate. I once pulled a rear caliper from a '79 245 and used in as a replacement either on my '92 245 or '91 244. Parts are pretty much interchangable and amazing. Don't worry about the number. Good luck.
