I run summer runflats all year and drive like an idiot on sick ass oem 30 yo rympz I don't want to ruin so I was after a set of tpms sensors for my 2&9 to know when it's a bad idea to hoon.

I found a Schrader branded retrofit kit that I've been pretty damn happy with. For less than the cost of 1 decent tire you get 4 valve senors and the wireless solar head unit. The sensors look just like the $200 set I bought for my '22. I just velcro'd down the head unit to my dash mat. It charges with USB-C as well. Gives you tire pressure and tire temp at each corner. It can relearn wheel positions after tire rotations.

But why add more tech to a car?

I like the idea, but I'd also like a less obtrusive setup. I wonder if there's one that can just set an idiot light. :e-shrug:

It beeps very loudly when pressure drops below whatever you set the warning to. You could probably just shove it in the glove box and charge it periodically.

Also the picture makes the head unit look huge. It's only 3"x3"x1". It fits really well in the left dash cubby next to the instrument cluster.

Tire temp is a neat thing to know. Have you tested the accuracy of it?
I've checked the accuracy of the pressure with an analog gauge but not the temp. I'll bring a laser thermometer with me sometime.

They do seem accurate enough, starting temp is consistently equal to ambient temp, and after 10 minutes on the highway they'll read at about 100f.

So I brought a laser thermometer along for a ride.

The wheel sensors give very accurate temp depending on where you're lasering. Gives dead on sidewall temps, contact patch is definitely hotter than what the sensors read by a few degrees. They're accurate enough to show a couple degree difference between the sun side and shaded side of the car when the sun is up. The tires on the shaded side of the car will read a few degrees cooler when just highway cruising.
Sun down hooning and temps are more even side to side / front to back.

I wouldn't use them to log data, but they do definitely let you know when the tires are adequately warm.

Just realized this has shake awake auto on/off, so I don't actually need to turn it on/off anymore whenever I get in/out of the car.

Shame they don't sell the head unit (for maybe $20?) - I run wheels from a S60T5 on my 740, so I already have 433mhz TPS in place...

Another question - the install video shows using a special TPMS scan tool to program the sensors to the head unit? Did you have to buy this tool, or did the head unit pick up the sensors once you drive?
