Gonna be a bit of a long thread, but I'm interested in what y'all think.
Setup:
1979 244, stock steering rack, Camaro p/s pump with a Volvo regulator/valve in it.
QSRC
I think that's all that's relevant here. No adjustable front arms.
Symptom:
After a turn to the left, the car pulls very aggressively to the left. Like at 35mph it'll change lanes in under 40-50 yards. The wheel is visibly cocked to the left when this happens. I do not feel any tightness or slop in the steering, and it doesn't yank the wheel out of your hand, it just pushes you off the road.
After a couple right hand turns, it'll straighten out. It will drive/track straight just fine until you make another left hand turn. It does seem to be more pronounced after slow speed turns.
Things I've checked so far:
Rack is tight to the crossmember and does not move relative to the crossmember.
Crossmember is tight to the body.
No play in ball joints/inner/outer tie rods.
All bolts in front suspension/steering are tight, including rear trailing arms nuts and the mounting cups for the rear bushings.
Strut gland nuts are tight.
Bolts for QSRCs are tight.
All bolts in the rear are tight.
Some were a bit loose when checked, tightened them all, and there was no change.
At this point, I'm thinking it's a bad rack. I do have a spare to swap in which is probably the path of least resistance, but I'm considering just buying one of the new steering racks while they're available.
Anybody had a similar issue?
