Hi I checked my power steering fluid level today and found it to be low,
I tried to find what type of fluid to use and found that there are diffrent types. I do not have the manual.
Does anybody may know what type a 98 gl 2.0t sedan use?
I saw a page about steering rack identification at (www.volvoclub.org.uk/faq/Steering.html#RackIdentification) but found that my car has -9 instead of 1,2,3 or 4.

its a volvo 940 sedan with a 2L turbo redblock,
I read that regular ATF may destroy the seals if it is not the right fluid, is type F ATF the same?
Or is it interchangeable?

I use Dexron III with no issues. Most power steering systems use ATF. PS fluid and ATF are both hydraulic fluids but PS fluid doesn't have the detergents and other additives ATF normally has. Type F works as well just can be a little more difficult to find.

Pretty much all ATF is red. Can't tell the difference by looking at it.

I also used dex III AKA dex/merc. Without any clutch packs in the mix I don't think the friction modifiers matter (Type F has none)
