Strange idle

When I'm driving and changing gears, the RPMs go up to 1500 to 2000. Its only after I brake to come to a stop, they go down to 850. What should I look for? I have a 90 240 with the m47 transmission.

How many MB is your ROM? There might be a vacuum leak and someone set the idle high to prevent stalling.

Throttle cable that is slow to return can cause this.
