The new look.

I got the cables back in and the car back together and they helped. The parking brake still kind of sucks on a hill though. I might put the spacers back in.
See if you can find adjusters to go inside the rotor like these- I replaced my solid H bars with these and it made it easy to adjust the shoes to the correct clearance inside the rotor before then getting the cable tension correct- my handbrake works properly now

 
I wonder if those were ever a volvo part?

Never thought about it before now but every other drum setup ive touched has adjusters. I wonder if the logic was eh these shoes are cheap who needs an adjuster

My Bentley manual says Volvo implemented them towards the end of the 240 run. VP has them for sale. The eBay ones all come from overseas and appear to be aftermarket. I’ll post in wanted.

The new cables are better for sure. They handle doesn’t bottom out but there’s a lot of slack in the shoes.
 
I installed those parking brake adjusters last night. The hand brake actually feels really nice. I think that since my rotors are ATE, the hat might be a little bigger maybe hence the need for them.

It felt really good working on my car again for a change. I’m going to try to do it more again and not let life get in the way so much.
