Ok so my girlfriends car 1992 volvo 940 turbo was pissing oil Out the turbo so nice by i am i decided to find a new turbo got it all mounted and all set with that but i went through the car for her coolent change oil all new hoses clamps intercooler ect and i got to tranmission :( did the gasket fliter and bolted pan back up ... When it came to refilling i got a funnel with a tube stuck it in the tansmission dip stick line and put 7.9 quarts in wayyy to much im guessing because i dont think 7.9 came out and when i was filling it with the new atf , atf started pissing out the back top of tranny ? Almost like it was an overfill valve up there ? Also i disconnected the two what i believe were transmission lines into the radiator bc rad was changed so basically i need to know was was atf pissing out atf out the back top of tranny and now that rad is empty from the two tranny lines that go into t is there anything that needs to be done with that ? Sorry new to fourm and just need some help

Your torque converter hold 2 to 3 qts of oil and will not drain out from the pan. I would probably drain 3 to 4 qts out then recheck. I wouldn't worry running a qt. low until you find the correct level.

Did you have the engine running at the time? If not, fluid can escape out the vent (if we have one... I can't remember) because the converter, valve body and clutches have partially drained down, and need to refill.

The usual method is to fill the trans (engine off) so it's up at the full mark on the stick, run it for a few seconds to pump the fluid to those empty parts, then shut it off (running with very low fluid can cause aeration... not good). Fill it to the full mark and run it again for a few seconds. Repeat until it stays somewhere on the stick when shut off, then let it run while you top it up to the "cold" full mark. Go for a short drive, or let it idle until the trans oil is completely warmed up, then check that it's near the "hot" full mark, or at least in the zone.

I'm sure you meant "a qt. low" is okay for filling, not driving. Mine starts slipping and shifting weird at a little over a quart low.
