they don't "count" the teeth, it's a frequency reading, the faster the pulse the sensor sees from the ring determines the speedo needle position.
A change in gaps/teeth/yadda per rev will indeed change the speed indicated. But as stated, it's working fine. I don't care why it isn't 2% off, it is what it is.
The ABS would indeed hate a missing tooth.
I can clean up the thread if bneeded.
