Volvo 1800ES: Barnfind to B230 swap

That timing cover scan looks great! If you’re interested in talking about it, I’d love to do a billet cover with trigger mount things.
Sure, I’d be glad to help. But I’m not sure what a billet cover really help, as it’s easy to make bend brackets for a crank trigger , and new timing covers are like $40 or so .

I did modify mine to fit a modern crank seal .

You may find that some stability issues come up with a sheet metal bracket… might depend on sensor and air gap… when I was using a nicely made 1/8” gusseted bracket and the threaded body sensor from diyautotune, I had some weird things happen around 3800, and again at 4100 rpm, made a more solid bracket and they all went away.

Interesting. I haven’t made the bracket yet, but easy enough for me to mill one out of aluminum block .

I’ll have to do a vibration simulation in F360. This bracket here has bend that should address stiffness , but I’ll run a simulation just to check .

I’m not super keen on the sensor location here , as I’ll want to run AC sometime in the future . I looked into it, and I just don’t see a clean way of doing a flywheel trigger on a B20, only way would be to grind a notch in the block and not going there .

What software are you running there? Is it supported by Mac or are you running thru another OS?
It’s Fusion 360, yes runs natively on Mac, but I have an Intel Mac. I’m not sure about new Macs that switched to ARM chips though, the ARM change made a lot of people leave Mac .

Yeah I’d have to check compatibility on mine with the m1 chip. Never really tried Fusion before but have seen some good reviews. I’ve used mostly NX and PTC at work but been wanting to run something on my laptop
