Volvo 240 black to chrome trim

Hello Volvo lovers,
After years, and many 240s visited with my father (around 10), we finally bought one 4-door Volvo 240 from 1985.
I always liked the shinny chrome on some volvos on the doors, around the water drain on the roof, around the car etc.
This one came with the black (paint???) around the door windows, with which many 240s came.
I read somewhere that it is just the chrome painted black, and if I scratch it the chrome will appear.
I saw some small chips it had that chrome appeared and I was wondering if it would make a nice result if I try to scratch all the black off. Will the chrome be shinny? (lol) Does anyone have knowledge about this topic?
As volvo owners, do you prefer the chrome or the black finishes on the trim in these cars?
This is my first thread in sites such as this. Thank you for any answer!

The trim on the doors is painted stainless steel, not chrome. It's not really feasible to remove the trim and reinstall it well, so you'll have to remove the paint with them installed, then you polish the stainless. The black strip on the upper part of the doors on a late model is a sticker, and can easily be removed with an eraser wheel tool. On wagons the B pillar gets the same sticker while it's painted on a sedan for some reason which in my opinion is the 1 pain about "backdating" a sedan.

It’s pretty easy to remove the trim and reinstall it

The trim clips can break, some colors are worse than others.
And some side moulding is all black plastic. The stainless channel is embedded in the plastic.

Congratulations on your Volvo 240 purchase! The black trim around the windows is indeed chrome that's been painted over. Scratching off the black paint can reveal the original chrome underneath, giving it a shiny appearance. Many Volvo enthusiasts prefer the classic chrome trim for its timeless look. Do you need help with your essays? I was in the same situation until I found https://domypaper.com/ Their service is outstanding, and the quality of work is top-notch. They’ve helped me improve my grades significantly. Check them out!
Those are good suggestions, it helped me.

Edit: And I forgot to say congratulations to you :)

Thank you guys for your answers. I think I didn't clarify which trim I was talking about. Here's the post I previously saw, which shows exactly what I am talking about:

Do you know if this can be accomplished? Do you know if the steel under the black paint is or can be shiny like the stock chrome on earlier 240 models? What should I do to make it like that and with what materials and procedure? Do you think that it fits a 240 which paint is almost black (It has the colour of the pencil), but doesn't have any trim on the body panels that go around the car (fenders, doors, trunk), since they weren't reinstalled after it was painted by the previous owner?
I don't know if this trim has a different name than the other.
Thanks again for answering!

If you want the door window frames to be shiny, remove the paint and polish the stainless steel. That's exactly how it is on the '80 and older models. Your '85 might have had the chunky trim just under the windows on the doors, earlier and later models were either unpainted or had a sticker there. At least '85 wouldn't have the lower plastic trim that leaves holes in the doors and fenders. '85 "backdate" would probably look really nice. '86+ will have different mirrors and the lower door trim that make the side profile more 80's looking. Your sedan will still have a black painted B pillar though.

Thanks a lot for the information!!
You helped a lot!
I know the B pillar is painted in my sedan and that's why I won't do anything to it.
However I also do not know if the small little windows for the rear passengers next to the rear windows are also a black sticker or also painted.
When you say trim on the doors, you mean the little black lines below the window which hold the rubber for the window? How do I remove the paint then and how do I polish it?
