Was gonna buy a truck, got a 1980 245 instead

Well that explains some of the noises.

Those look like the oil filter was sitting on the passenger mount. Nice to get rid of the funny noises and engine/trans movement. Probably got a lot more torque going to the wheels.

Do you know if the later r0,960 round face speedo guts are the same as your earlier square face speedo? If so, I have a couple later 85 mph clusters that I'll make you a good deal on. I ran one of them for a while and the speed seemed pretty accurate, the other one was off ebay and I only got it for the VR sensor. I think the odo is working on both.

Edit: gratuitous pic of my blue wagon - spider eyes FTW

Guts are the same. Just have to swap the face and the needle.

Yeah, it's a decent look...

Thanks to Bob for sending me those speedometers. I got one installed and it works perfectly.

Also rebuilt an '86+ passenger seat to match the driver seat. My logic is that when I can figure out seat covers then I'll go back to the early style seat. But for now it works.

New shocks in the back, struts to be done at some point. The old ones had some issues.

A good sign for the condition of the engine is the next to complete lack of corrosion anywhere on the thermostat housing, most I see are pitted. I did a change on all the fluids.

Lastly I pulled the windshield trim to assess the rust. Scraping off all the bubbling paint there was only one really bad spot. I only found those while poking the metal with a screwdriver looking for thin spots I should patch. But in the grand scheme of things the rust situation is really good for a 40 year old car.

Made a discovery while checking to see how far rust had spread under some paint in the windshield channel. Oh no.

And whoever did the windshield last filled rust holes with body filler.

But wait, there's more!

And the welding begins (I covered the newspaper with a towel before welding). Forgot to cover the cowl, I guess I was going to do paint work on it anyway.

The windshield saga is finally over with. No glass shops near me wanted to deal with the old style windshield, so the later style went in.

Been a while. Probably should update this. The car runs rather nicely, but with the recent heat wave it has come time to do some upgrades. Namely AC. Started with the easy stuff, AC compressor and PS pump. All the parts are from a 1993 240, so some of them took some work to make fit.

And questioning my life choices at this point to swap in the HVAC box with the '93 evaporator. It did give me a chance to troubleshoot my messed up wiper situation. The grease in the pivot was hard enough that the motor had to really struggle to move the mechanism.

And fill/recover the cracked dashboard.

Lastly a '93 condenser. 3d printed brackets helped in mounting it to the '80 front sheet metal.

Also had the front brace thing and pusher fan from the '93, that bolted in without much hassle.

looking good, hows the paint match on the cowling area? what did you do to match it ?
I just went and bought a spray can advertised as paint code 139-2. It was close enough. The car will need some work eventually in the paint department. It was resprayed at some point and the clear is failing.

Removed the pressure switch (thank god for schrader valves) and it held vacuum overnight. Now to wrap up wiring and charge it.

Maybe also flush the cooling system because I forgot to do that with the heater core in the new HVAC box before installing it.

Well that may explain some of my k-jet weirdness.

Quick update, I am troubleshooting K-jet and the AC idle compensation circuit. New O2 sensor, checked for vacuum leaks, and new injectors. Won't idle right after it has sat on startup until I blip the throttle a bit. Seems that the lambda system dwell/duty cycle was off, should be 49-59 degrees of dwell according to the greenbook.

AC is working great.

Did you end up fixing your wiper issues? Biggest issue I found was that the grease in the motor goes bad and after cleaning/replacing the grease they work great

Second is bad ground at the motor
