We have the main categories “mechanical” “classified” “general” and “meta” and all of those have sub categories. We have two options under “mechanical”, for discussions about anything under the sun. The project thread section was moved to this main mechanical category during the server change over. Over the past several years though, there seems to be a lot of threads that are not either posted in to correct location or run off topic for any number of reason ( maybe because of the category they are started in?).

Do you think it would be better to have a few more separate categories to help with declutterring the only two real areas people are posting new threads? Maybe the categories can be revised or reworded so people can post in the correct location?

I’m seeing a lot of non performance or modification thread in that section.

For example, make an engine swap category and move all discussion about swaps to that area. Maybe put the engine swap section about the other three so it’s first on the website. I get some people are new to forums and don’t know where everything is, some people just so up once ask a question but post it where they have the easiest time, usually right under the first category link they have.

I understand it would be a lot of back work so…

The fact that forums are slowing down and not generating the social interaction at the same volume as they once used to only reinforces my belief that boards with fewer forums last longer and build stronger conversations which ultimate generates repeat interest in its viewers. I could give a whole ted-talk on this but we were one of the first, and now one of the last... message boards on the internet thats still relatively active.

After 25+ years of this board I suspect we can all agree it really isnt that big of a deal if someone posts something in the wrong place. It isnt that common and easily rectified.

I’ll agree. I’m a member of theflyfishingforum.com and that has way too many subforums. Some of those forums will go weeks or months with no new posts, and most people don’t even know some of the forums exist. I just counted and there are 109 sub forums, and they are extremely specific and he keeps adding more. Very annoying to navigate and new people get completely lost.
