What would YOU want to buy that is made of Carbon Fiber?

So many small parts are already available in 3D printed flavors that are in many cases, good enough. Air vent gauge pods, etc.

Carbonlat makes a repro of the Theis K1 body kit and several spoilers, KL Racing makes 740 sized repros of the 240 Group A spoiler. Getting them to the US is the hardest part. Nobody is doing any of it stateside.

I'd love to see something fresh, like a mounting solution for a Dodge or BMW 8hp compatible shifter.
I'd be glad to do some of those bodykits, but would not want to step on anyone's toes when it comes to stealing work, especially creative. I could reach out to them. Alternatively, I could look into making something bespoke, but I don't want to give anyone false hope, as some things I just am unable to do because I don't have the resources financially and space wise. By the volume of people asking for things out of my size constraints though, this does make it seem like a good idea to start doing bigger parts. Today I'll order some infusion stuff. How hard could it be?

I want to be clear I am basically cheating with the 2J, as I wont be using a red block. I got it as a GE-vvti out of an sc300 (which has the more uncommon rear sump oil pan). GE VVTis normally have a 10.5:1 compression ratio, but I obviously am now running a 9:1 compression ratio. My valves will be interference, as the Manley Platinum series let me do that. Rods are Eagle, which I know are not amazing for high revs at high power, but honestly it seems like eagle rods are a real 5050 split in the 2J community, so I'm not completely certain I'll keep them. I've got ACL rod and main bearings, ARP mains and head studs, I'll be running GSC s1 cams, as I used to work there, and their quality is really great. When I worked at Boeing I was able to spend a lot more money on cool stuff, but now I'm back to college I cannot afford to right now.
Your engine choice makes sense and the power level seems attainable

Mostly ignore me, I talk a lot of shit on here

There’s a huge void in the “performance parts” Volvo market. I hope you help change that

I am about to spend some money on resin infusion gear. Will keep you guys updated on when it arrives, and when I am able to make big parts. I can shoot for a duckbill spoiler this next week or two.

240s made before 1978 also have the flat trunk so you could hit both markets by making one for 1967-1978 Volvos in general
Sweet. I would have to either hunt one of the spoilers down to make a mold of it, or make a new one. By the sounds of it though, I'm more likely going to have to make a new one. How would you guys want fastening to work? I'd love to use hilocs, but that would mean countersinking and sealing. I am very anti-adhesive tape.

There might be some demand for both flavors of commando airdams. The only downside of carbon there is it won't tolerate hitting parking bricks or scraping on driveways as well as the stock ones.
Yeah. Carbon is really bad at shock resistance. Its super strong, but at the same time it doesn't deform like steel, for example, where it will hit its peak strength in its plastic range, carbon is similar to ceramic in that when it fails it fails catastrophically. Luckily, for impact resistance, I would do a carbon kevlar combination allowing for better failure modes, and more impact resistance, plus more flexibility before failure, letting it survive those kinds of scrapes.

Sounds good. That is a very achievable part to make. I Implore you to look at composite envisions website in their "decorative" section to see if there is anything there you'd be interested in. This and the door trim that HiSPL are probably the two parts I'll start with. Carbon is good at organic shapes, so if you want something that has a lot of sharp edges, chances are that it would be too time consuming for me to make often. I'll start with prepregs on most of this stuff, just because it’s faster to make, stronger, has a better surface finish, and is lighter.
If you need a 242 b pillar to make a mold of I have a bunch.

The only one I’ve ever seen is nos and I think is unfortunately in the hands of someone we don’t like to mention here…. Kinda rhymes with “head knock sobriety”….. I reluctantly messaged him about it once and he said he won’t sell it and will just let it sit for eternity out of spite. Please please please make some

For fastening: riv nuts/nut serts of some kind? I got one of the repro group a spoilers in abs and it has threaded riv nut like inserts

Yep, that's the next thing I'll make. Just bought resin infusion stuff. I am going to do 2x2 twill on this spoiler for now. I'll hand one out to a local friend for testing, and then shoot one or two out to you guys. If everyone who has one has no gripes, I'll make more to sell. Luckily my overhead is small, so I wont charge as much. I will release some concept art, and maybe we could do some kind of voting on the look you guys would want more.

To start out, I'm going to make one for the newer 240s. My guinea pig has a 1990 244. If enough people take the duckbills off my hands (After testing), I'll do a road trip to 3D scan a 140. I would much rather get a real 3D scan, as I want it to be OEM-like fitment. I am fortunate enough to be able to reinvest all the money earned into my equipment, which will help me make more cool stuff faster and higher quality.

Alright. I'm starting the Volvo 240 duckbill spoiler. It will be for the later models, but I am still very interested in the 140 spoiler (552167-9). Would this be what would interest you guys? or a true duckbill?

BOOOO, HISSSS

Late 240 owners won't care for a carbon one if they can buy a cheaper fiberglass/plastic options: https://shop.klracing.se/sv/artiklar/240-grupp-a-vinge.html

I'm also just being a cynic because I want one for my 142

The pic you posted is the group a spoiler. It mounts on all years. The 140/early 240 “duckbill” spoiler is completely flush to the early style trunk. I’ve only ever seen pictures and not even very good ones. I’ll try and find the best one I saved
I was looking at it all day. Used a vpn to Sweden to find some good photos.

I’d be glad to pursue it, so I won’t say it’s not happening for sure. I’ll see how my first few duckbill spoilers work, if they are approved by the testers, I’ll make a few to sell. If they sell, I’ll be able to afford a roadtrip to scan a 144, more materials, and better equipment.

Scanning a 244 from 88 tomorrow. Made a few molds to practice mold making. will keep you guys updated.
