We raced 24 Hours of Lemons Sonoma last weekend. We had fun, but only placed 50th our of 134 and 24th in class. I believe we were the only Volvo powered Volvo on the track.
It was raining a lot on Saturday morning and at the end of the first drivers stint he said he had no brakes. Pulled into the garage and there was brake fluid all over the drivers rear wheel. Pulled the wheel and the caliper had lost both slide pins and ejected $100 worth of new brake pads.
We slapped a spare caliper on and some very worn pads on and sent the next driver out.
Second driver came in for a black flag. He had tried to pass a Kia? that closed the door on him, which caused him to hit that car and a Miata that was beside him. Rest of the day went by without incident. Only damage to our car was the front bumper. The Miata I bought a tie-rod for, and the Kia we bought a case of beer.
That night we put on some parts store pads in the rear, and replaced a cam seal. We were leaking a lot of oil from somewhere. After heating up the engine, the leaking seemed to have stopped or at least slowed considerably.
Second day we had contact three more times with other cars. It had been many races since we had any contact, so 4 hits in a weekend was a lot. Car was still leaking oil and we added about half a gallon of oil halfway through the day.
We took the checkered flag on Sunday.
This race was bittersweet, at the end of the race I sold the car to one of my drivers. He is a Volvo die hard. He has a LS 940 and a K-swap 245. He is going to continue to develop #745 and I am going to continue to race with him, but I am also going to build a new car.
