Which cam is the right cam (for me)

Nearly on topic.... what is your A cam vacuum at idle? Has your head been cut the TB mandatory 1mm?
I've only recently replaced the head gasket and had the head cut, but I'm waiting for a replacement exhaust manifold before I can really drive it. I never measured the manifold vacuum before the HG failed unfortunately. Regardless I didn't notice any unusual idle characteristics. L H2.2 may not be as forgiving.

From memory, the 940 T I ran with an A pulled 16 to 17 in/HG at warm idle, A/C off. Cam was timed straight up.

That was highway only 70mph cruze control to seattle and back. Nowdays getting 22mpg in the same car average miles per gallon highway and stop and go through town to CAmas Washington and back to Scappoose ORegon every day also was about the same average miles per gallon I got in my 1988 240 with A cam and M47 and 3.31 ratio rear end. Every tank full 22 miles per gallon. Do you want to argue with me about that. I know how to do math. Got 295 miles with 13.5 gallons burned up last tank. Can you do math? 21.85185185185185 Also at every stop light when it goes green I get on it and blow the doors off every other wanna bee, I blow em. A cam I ran 12.61 in quarter mile, same car changed to RSI stage 3 turbo cam ran 12.7's.. Nothing else changed. So A cam is the best cam is an A cam best yest. I thought nowdaze the IPD cam is junk cam cause it wears out the lobes as it isn't made like factory ductile iron cam?

Fun fact. IPD back in the 80s used to sell the A cam from Volvo. They called it the Euro grind cam. I bought one as soon as I saw it in the catalog. Good stuff hidden in their catalog back then.

I was gonna argue about your math but now I want to argue about cams.
T-cam is the best cam.

I’m partial the IPD turbo or B cam for most “OEM+” type manual setups. I’ve never driven an auto 240 for longer than an hour. No clue how they handle compression and cams.

The guy rebuilding your head says B cam, your Dad says B cam, and you have a B cam in the parts stash. Seems like a B cam is the way to go. Save your money and go witht he path of least resistance.

You can find the thread by klr142 about cams and get lost in the numbers. Everyone's butt dyno is going to suggest something different than the next guy.

I'm going to be a contrarion and say that the B cam was the worst cam I've ran out of the 9 in my car. Low lift so it's choking the port unlike a V, and it has so much overlap compared to the A and V that for a cam that doesn't perform great it's a big negative for me. All the downsides of an H with none of the perks. I was able to get a 16 second 0-60 out of my B cam with stock B230F and AW70. That's 3 seconds slower than what the M should do. Same car with an H cam and cylinder head mods and nothing else did 10 seconds to 60.

Not exactly a great a-b comparison between your tests there.

The B cam doesn’t have a ton of lift, but the durations isn’t crazy compared to an A or V. The change in overlap at 1mm between the A and B is like 3°… not significant.

My vote is still for an IPD turbo cam if you can find one cheap. More lift, less duration.

When I get around to installing my V grind I will report back.

I will say again the A is an improvement over a T. The only negative I found with the A was about 1 mpg less overall.

In an NA car the T is a great upgrade over an M. Yes, I tried this in an NA 740. That netted a 1 mpg increase in fuel economy.

Just to further muddy the waters. lol The V15 that I enjoy has the same duration as the B cam. About the same lift as a K cam. About the same lobe angle as an A cam. That's why Enem calls it the street performance torque cam. While still easily passing emissions.

I have to agree with overdrive that a B cam in an otherwise stock B230 was underwhelming in performance. It did improve the highway power a bit.

I finally got the car back together, here's the A cam straight up with LH2.4 automatic. The converter came apart, I think the muffler may be a little plugged, I blew it out reverse flow with a 375cfm air compressor and 1" air hose but i still hear stuff rattling around in there.

Well just counting seconds in the video, it took 15 seconds from 0-60
