hi guys I have a 1987 240 wagon I think my wiper linkage is broken do I have to remove the entire dash?

well the driver side wiper chooses when it wants to work and I can move it freely by hand, my guess is its the cable but I will start with the instrument cluster and pray that works
Check the nut where the wiper arm attaches to the stem coming through the body (on the exterior of the car, near the base of the windshield ).
If that nut gets loose, the wiper will act crazy and flop around.
Pop the cover off the wiper arm where it is attached and tighten the nut...10mm hex.

Sounds like you need a new wiper motor. It is possible to hook it up to the wiper transmission backwards which will make the wipers try to wipe the hood and blow the fuse.
