Double Dutch

Fuel economy

What kind of change in economy did you see?

An overall fuel economy of at least 10% in fuel consumption (LPG).
No hick-ups anymore and a much better throttle response, and last but not least more torque (I like torque over horsepower).

Making your own gauge pod.

I don't like the normal gauge pod's as used at the left side of the windscreen so I made my own. Bought a second ash tray set to modify and to use the plastic from it to fab some segments. And remember, Epoxy raisin is your friend.

Airbox clamps

Did you know that Volvo provided extra enhanced Airbox clamps in case the original one's broke down?

Connection rods too heavy

I have been weighing all of my connection rods. Three of them are between 478 and 481 grams very nice, number four is weighting 506 gram that is waaaay too much imho. I want to grind that one off at the shoulders, is that a good idea?

You want to weight them with the caps on. Then you match the weight of the big-ends and the small-ends. There are pads on the cap where you remove material, and the pads on the side of the small-end are where you remove material as well.

Great

That's a very clear answer, thank you very much man...

Little update

Been weighing and grinding my connection rod's and they are now exactly 716 grams each.
So that's done too for the bucket list (thanks to culberro for the link).

Porting the oilpump

A short story about the oilpump, mainly because I've got my engine totally dismantled and I
don't want to spent a whole lot of money for a new big fancy oilpump so decided to just
check and then port the old one.

After measuring i thought that it was a ok to start porting.
There are a lot of hairy edges in the internals to work on for better flow in my opinion.
Just see for yourself...

And if it doesn't help it won't hurt either ;-)

Fantastic build so far! I envy your attention to detail.

Would you say it was truly worth you time with the head work?
I am thinking of doing something similar to a spare 530 head on bench.

Yes

It sure is, especially with a 531 head because it's "breathing" more then the 530 head.
Also the position of the sparkplug is better (towards the outlet) and the combustion chamber has a different design too. I also shrouded the chamber at the outlet side, as you can see in the pictures.

But... this one is not on yet and i did not measure the cc's so the gain will be a matter of trial and error. But together with all my other updates (still in progress) it must be worthwhile in my opnion.
