The Purple '97 960 Wagon Build Thread

My summer tires were bald and it was about time to switch to my snow tires, so I decided to fry the tires off by doing some second gear doughnuts and a nice second gear burnout. Enjoy.

That's blackberry wine. Same color as mine, I haven't been able to verify this for sure, but I believe it was a color not offered in America. Mine's from Germany which makes this more believable.

Good to know. Omaha, Nebraska has about three Volvos that aren't an XC90 driven by some overly wealthy ritzy mom (I'm not implying that all people who drive XC90's are like that). So I don't have much to look at in these parts.

Hows the gas mileage been? I love how my 960 drives but I hate how my 850 always gets 3 mpg minimum better gas mileage in the same driving situations.

About nineteen city. I have a plus one in the back seat so I drive pretty conservatively. But I have been driving the 960 for four years, it's my only car so I know nothing different. Took a 600 mile trip last summer and I got about 23 or 24. So pretty respectable on the highway.

It's respectable until you drive a BMW 540 sport with a very underrated 282 HP (friend's dyno'd 270 RWHP on two different dynos) which happens to also get high 20s on the highway. For the crap mileage my S90 gets, it ought to be a helluva lot faster (And I have PC Cams, Fred Tune w/ 7k Redline, and a Full manifold back exhaust).

Really? XC70's rule in most of Virginia. But we also have a fair amount of other models too. Volvo's in general are quite popular here.

Have you tried putting the transmission in sport mode? I actually get better mileage in my 965 in sport than economy. I usually get 20-23 in mixed driving.

I've seen a bajillion of them. Both 960s and 850s. It was definitely offered here.

I have also seen quite a few 960s with it. There's a wagon near me that's blackberry, and I've seen a few sedans around here in this color, too. Plenty on the internets, also. I even had NAPA mix me a quart when I needed to paint the passenger side fender. I told him the paint code and the guy looked it right up in the book. It's definitely a color offered in the U.S. It is rare though, and it's an awesome color!

I get about 19 around town with the M90, but I drive like a complete ass. Sometimes I get as bad as 17 or 15... lol. I've gotten anywhere from 20-25 on the highway on long trips, depending on how I drive. I also have the roof racks up top so that screws with highway mileage. The best I've ever gotten out of the car was 28mpg out of one tank where I kept it around town and under 50mph for the whole tank. It sucked to drive like a grandpa though, so I don't. lol.

Haha.. doing Burnots with bikes on the roof... this should be an advertising from the past ;)

YES... IT CAN FLY !

Awesome, right?? lol.

I don't see any T6 stuff yet.

Shut up, Karl. :-P I work my ass off and I still don't have any money to show for it. At least I have the engine ready to be rebuilt. I should have the cash next winter. I want to do it right. RSI rods and pistons, the whole nine yards. I'm hoping to have the engine in for Carlisle 2013. Volvo will be the featured manufacturer again that year too, I believe!

Well and now that gas has gotten so damn expensive, it really makes a noticeable impact. It's almost $4.00 a gallon in Omaha. Ridiculous seeing as how it was as low as $2.79 across the river in Iowa, just last summer. Spending $60+ to fill up, and then only getting a range of about 375 miles, just isn't cutting it.

I have not, but I will. Considering my mpg rating is terrible already I don't have much to lose. That's the problem with smaller cities, everything is so centralized, that it's a lot of stop an go. So I doubt it would make a difference. Volvo should have made it an economy'ish mode. Economy, ha.
