I have an 1986 760 Turbo. I need a pass front spindle. I found an '89 740. It has the both front spindles. Can I swap the spindles with no problems? The JY car has no calipers, just the rotors. Also what would I need to get or do to make this work? Thank you.

if you have the rotor which has the hub on it as well with the bearings, it won't work, being an 86' it could have either type. So I'd suggest going to another wreckers.

If the struts are complete with all brake parts and they have the same number of brake hoses I cannot see any problem if everything on both sides is replaced.

Although if the 86 760 has 14 inch wheels then a switch to 15s may be needed.

All Volvos after 88 do not all have ABS. My 91 244 doesn't. You had to order it,or not order it, pretty sure

My car has the stock 15" Turbo wheels. The JY car does not have the calipers, it does have the rotors and caliper mount. It also has two piece hub/rotor assembly. My car has the one piece type and they are 10". It is very hard to find cars of my year in the wrecking yard. How do I know if the donor car has abs? Can I modify it to work on a car without abs? Thank you all for your answers, Mike.

The 760 spindle same as 740 right? Also, what type calipers you got? Look at IPDUSA.com for info on different calipers for 740 thru the years. I have some 740 one piece type spindles/struts IIRC.

We're talking about 7 series bud, not 2's.

Yeah, you will need to wait for a pair of struts off the later model ones with callipers attached.

Perhaps I,m wrong on the 740s ABS application then. I apologize if I'm wrong. How do ya spot the ABS diffence on ** and later on the 740s? Same look as 240 ABS?

If you have Bendix dual piston calipers with dual brake hoses per caliper, that is not ABS. ABS cars only have one brake hose per caliper. If you find some struts from a car with two piece rotor and hub, you should be able to use your calipers if you find the correct caliper mounting brackets. IIRC means "if I recall correctly".

So, if I buy the strut/spindle with the rotors and caliper mounts from the 1989 740, it should work on my car using my calipers and the other cars caliper mounts? I have a 1986 760 turbo. Thank you answer on IIRC. Also thanks for all your help.

I have checked part numbers for struts for 700/900 including 740, 760, 940, and 960 and have found only two part numbers for left and two part numbers for right. There is one part number for ABS and one part number for NO ABS.

I believe the difference in ABS and non ABS struts is a hole for the ABS sensor. So I would think that a strut from an ABS car would work on a non ABS car, but not a non ABS strut on an ABS car.

Order the rotor for the replacement 2 piece rotor kit (#1359906).

You can use the spindle & hub, you just can't use the larger rotor, even if you had the calipers & brackets, you wheels, if 15" would likely NOT fit over the newer rotor/caliper setup.

EDIT: sorry, it was the 14's that don't fit the newer caliper/rotor, 15"s probably would fit, if in fact you got the newer brackets & (non-ABS) larger calipers...

up to 87 the abs on the sedans at least was under a pine box in the trunk. wagons might have been the same, but I've never mucked around in one of that vintage.

My car(88) was non-abs but had a hole for the sensor on both sides... had a plastic plugs over them. Assume when they introduced the ABS as an option most (or maybe all) cars got the new struts even if they did not come with ABS.

Hello all, thank you all for your help. I found a 1989 740 GLE with no motor. It has everything else. Here is my question: Can I use all the front end parts off the '89 on my '86? Changing both strut tower/spindles, calipers, caliper mounts, hubs and rotors? Also a little off topic, but can I also use the front seats as mine are badly worn out (leather torn, lumbar support broke, heaters not working)? Also do you think the heater core would work for my car? Thank you all for you help, I really do appreciate it.
