Please point me in the right direction. Sometimes my 245 wont take off from a red light. It doesn't have enough power to go. I have to pump the gas pedal and it finally shudders and goes. Then other times the engine will just start racing and I almost slam into things. It's really scary. My boyfriend thinks the cruise control might be going haywire. Most of the time the car runs fine, but i have been having more trouble since it's been cold out.

The not wanting to go part sounds more like spark, but the racing sounds more like fuel/mixture problems. What kind of condition are the cap, rotor, plugs, wires in? Perhaps your fuel pump is getting ready to let go?

As suggested the first thing you want to do is check for codes. That seems to me that it might also be an idle control problem. If the idle motor is flaking out. It can make the engine almost stall and also make the engine race. You could try cleaning the motor. It's the small electric motor under the intake. Remove it and clean it out with the air intake cleaner. Clean out the hoses going to it as well.

Sounds like limp home mode.. i'd guess a bad wire on the AMM that's shaking loose. Pull the plug and have a look at the pins. Should be obvious if one is damaged. You can use a small pick or a paper clip to straighten them and close them up for good contact.

There's no way this could be related to the cruise control.

will it give a code if the check engine light isn't on? the bulb is good in the check engine light, but it isn't on. will an amm or idle control problem cause the check engine light to come on?

It may give a code if the CEL isn't on, not all codes actually cause a CEL. That said, it may not have codes. BUT, that doesn't necessarily mean that there isn't something wrong with the AMM wiring causing an intermittent problem that isn't throwing a code. I'd still double-check it.

There are codes that are set that won't light the check engine light. It depends on the code. Another thought is the engine speed sensor. That's the one at the back of the engine on the top of the bell housing. Have you replaced it? The engine won't run without it and if it's flaky it will cause strange problems. Check the sensor wire for splitting and cracking. If it has any splits or is the one with a yellow marker on it. It needs to be replaced.

So my car wouldn't start after work yesterday. Turns out it wasn't sparking. Had it towed to the shop, and my boyfriend poked at it this afternoon and ended up replacing the ecu with the rebuilt one out of my old wag. A whole lot of the issues are resolved and it starts every time now. :-D thanks for all your helps everybody!
