Volvo or Bust: Adopting a '92 740 Turbo Wagon

Soaking up the miles along some classic US Highways this past week. I'm enjoying how this has come together.

So, I THOUGHT I was all prepared to dive in and tackle the center support bushing & bearing. It wasn't until my bushing arrived that I learned this is a bit different than a 240. The bushing was just a donut that slipped on and off, on the 240. This was going to require the bearing replacement too.

With a Yoshifab poly bushing, and a new Timken bearing, I ordered some 3-jaw pullers and got to work. My gosh, extracting the old bearing/bushing was nothing short of frustrating.

The first attempt ended unsuccessfully, with me damaging/destroying the new bushing AND bearing. I stopped documenting the process, in an effort to prioritize completion of the task at hand. Thanks to a member here, I managed to source a new bushing which had the bearing already installed. Thanks to the help of a 1-1/16" socket, I was able to drive the bearing on the driveshaft easily, and get everything reassembled.

I'm happy to report, after 250 miles of driving yesterday, that all is in order and there are no new vibrations, well into the triple digit speed category.
